I have a Laney VC30, which is a nice compromise between the Vox EL84 sound and the Marshall-esque quaity of the Celestion low-frequency greenbacks. i think the newer ones have more Vox-voiced speakers, and they have a 15W version as well. MM said once that the ones like mine sound as good as a Matchless for 1/3 the cost.

I actually have a VC30! The only problem is that it is in long term storage in another country. But that was a nice amp.. I think... been 10 years since I played it.

as i've said before somewhere, i've taken the VC30 to Gretsch Pages gatherings where people had Victorias, Gretch amps made by Victoria, hand-built custom amps, and various Chet Atkins-lawyer vintage shit, and i swear my Laney sounded better than any of them.

Hmm... I wonder how similar the LH50 is? I'm playing stupid loud metal these days, and I think the added headroom of a 50 would be nice. Probably shouldn't hijack this thread too much... sorry!

Getting back to the original topic, I just traded a DLS MKII in because I struggled with the whole "foundation" pedal concept. That pedal has almost a DS-1 thing going on...not that it SOUNDS like a DS-1, but that it's just voiced a little too bright for most amps. I love Catalinbread as a company, but as a Vox user (Valvetronix), their stuff just isn't playing well with my amps.

Don't know much about the Wampler '65, but I'm more inclined to trust stuff from them than Catalinbread, for the money.

I've found Vox amps in general to be picky when it comes to pedals. The AC15 hated every other fuzz pedal I put in front of it. For what it is, the Pathfinder has been great to me, and it's not as picky as the AC15, but anything high gain just sounds like a cat being baptized.

Ya mine is definitely picky and I think i've decided that I'm gonna run a two amp setup with a princeton as well. The vox is just way to picky with dirt and especially with delay. This will also make for a great ping pong set up and I'll get a little more bass. FWIW, I have a Hoof that sounds absolutely AMAZING though my AC15c1!

It can be really muddy even with a bright delay like the dd3. Basically, it doesn't play well with a delay in front of it and especially when dirty.
