I've been handed floor models for the same price as a brand new one for the same price in not so great condition before, so bogus. Your situation is diferent, but I understand the frustration. Lots of excitement quickly turns into lots of disappointment.

a trip to peru could of knocked a solder joint loose

i dont know a thing about catalinbread
but im sure they just want it done right
and the best answer IS
yo send that shit over and well fix it up
in your situation
to hell with the warranty for now
have the local tech fix it
if it still dont work
then send it back
im sure itll work out for you
what i dont understand is the $900 postage discrpancy
whats the conversion for usa$-peruvian$
the other option is buy a soldering iron
and use this as your gateway to diy
bottom line openin a box with new shit in it
that dont work sucks balls
first time with me was a gotcha gun in like '86so psyched
pulled trigger
nothin

it's totally a bummer when it happens - for both parties.
when i get an email from someone saying "hey dude, the pedal you sent me is broken" when i knowingly tested it before i sent it out, i have the exact same feeling of confusion and disappointment that the user has. sometimes it's a power issue or someone plugged it in backwards or is using a janky cable or the toggle/footswitch happened to fail or a part randomly loosened to where it's causing a problem... could be anything. seems like in your case, catalinbread is doing the right thing and the only thing they can do.

if the shipping is indeed $1000, then that situation fucking sucks but it isn't catalinbread's fault.
