That it is a great site. I went to the bookstore today and read an electronics book for two hours but it was too expensive to buy when there is a plethora of free information on the net. Thanks for that!

Craig Anderton's "Electronic Projects for Musicians" is fantastic, and e-copies can be easy to find for free...hit me up if you can't source it.

thanks for that offer bud. I just ordered the kit from GGG along with the transistor socket and 3x2N3904 and 3x2N5089 for the options of getting really nasty, noisey and mean. I'll ask questions if I run into any trouble but I have faith I can sort it out and come out with a sweet pedal!

I soldered all the capacitors and tranny sockets in place on the board. Next step tomorrow is solder the resistors into place and think it through logically how the circuit works.
One question should I screw the input jacks and footswitch in and then solder the wires to their proper places or should I solder them outside of the enclosure and then put it all together? Im thinking it would be wiser and easier to do the soldering outside of the restrictive closure!

I like to do it inside the enclosure so I know exactly how much wire I need for it to look neat yet still be accessible to troubleshoot.

That does make sense to do it inside the enclosure to make it look all neat and clean. I am all about not rushing and doing a clean, sexxxy job!

That's the best way to not have extra inches of wiring all over the place. It'll be

I've built more than a few of these. I use a 25kb pot for the fuzz control. I just breadboarded one with the original type transistor 2Sc536. Did it to the stock values but remembered that I got optimal sounding fuzz by lowering the two b to c transistors, which are the 2M2 and the 1M2. Right now I've got a 560k in the 2m2 spot and a 360k in the 1m2 spot. Sounds way better. I would recommend sockets for these spots. But if you don't do it this time around and the fuzz sounds too splatty in not a good way I would try altering those two spots...

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I socketed the trannies so once I get it up and running I will see if I need to lower the first two transistors. Thanks for the heads up!

Yup, wish I'd had that advice before I finished up mine...

Yeah, with some transistors this circuit just doesn't sound good at all. I built one of these for a friend that has two fy2's in series. Always wanted to make myself one so I was breadboarding the circuit last night and got one to sound perfect but the other one sounded like shit. Being sober today, maybe i'll be able to fix it! A 5KB pot between the .1 midscoop filter cap and ground lets you dial in some of those mids. Sounds great with the midscoop but nice to bring some mids back in to make the sound fuller.

here is my project so far... it is not the cleanest and most proper looking board but all the solders should be sound. I am looking forward to finishing it up really within the next few days,
