I want a guitar where the bridge is one big-ass metal plate that the pickups are also mounted to. Like a giant Tele bridge.
And...and it's semi-hollow too.

DUDE! I keep thinking about doing something Like that.. a plate of 1/8" steel that runs from the end of the FB to the end of the guitar with the pickups and bridge mounted to it :thumb:

So my bosses are awesome because they found out Moldover (of controllerism fame) was in town for a workshop + shows, and asked him to come do a workshop + play some songs in our office.

Here's some pictures: http://southpolesteve.smugmug.com/Music ... &k=mbSmML7
And a video of a song on our company blog: http://bendyworks.com/geekville/article ... rollerists

He's built a guitar that itself is not a MIDI guitar, but there's a MIDI controller on the lower half of the body that controls a bunch of Max/MSP patches running on his laptop, so he can do tons of cool stuff. AFAIK this is one of the few photosets of his new guitar online. He admitted that it's a crappy guitar but he's working with a luthier to build a more polished guitar where all the MIDI buttons / sliders / ribbons / etc are built into a pickguard.

(PS - I'm not in any of the pictures.. somehow dodged that bullet. My coworker Devin can be seen playing his guitar in quite a few of the pictures.)

Aw man I really wanna do this now.
I don't have any way of "routing" a metal sheet though. I wonder if a jeweler's saw would work...if I drilled a bunch of holes in the part to be removed first.
Hmm...HMMMMMMMMMMMMM....

Yep same prob.. I could do aluminum.. or brass.. you can cut that with wood working tools but.. steel would be way cooler!

Brass might be cool too. For some reason I think it might be the brightest-sounding...but I really don't know.
This is definitely happening one day. My Kawai will evolve.

....metal is expensive :(

I hear that Nelson Bastard is doing some interesting things!
Seriously though even though I don't do fender or gibson stuff I do have a handful of bass VI prototypes that are going into the spray booth tomorrow! Price will be about $1550 (with binding, $1450 without)
Also I don't care about traditional woods.
One other comment that was made on page 1 had to do with finishes. My lacquer finishes are hand rubbed and while they are quite good there are minor imperfections here and there. (a few years ago I had to finish over a mosquito)

And even though I use traditional construction principles, I refuse to use off-the-shelf pickups.
I too am sick of all the sh!t that is force-fed to the guitar buing public. I don't consider myself an "artist" or anything equally pretentious, but I want to build cool, unique instruments that represent great style and offer tremendous value!
Not mass produced comodities with strings.
As a side note I have two bass VIs left that have not been spoken for. If they don't get spoken for before they are done then they will get offered to dealers first.
If you haven't looked at the Nelson Current happenings thread then check 'em out!
okay enough shameless self promotion! haha
I guess I'll just say that I'm listening to what is being said. I'm already ahead of the curve on some of this stuff but it will take some time for things to get built.
Keep the good ideas coming friends!

There's a shop 15 minutes away, too.
It's time for another round of job applications. LET'S DO THIS.

Heh. I am the only Matt on that site, yes.
(expecting influx of "you've got an pretty mouth")

It's not a guitar that triggers MIDI notes, just uses an onboard controller to trigger effects.

Imagine if you had buttons, faders, joysticks and other controls to a M9/M13 that was sitting on the floor, but you controlled it all on the guitar. That's what this thing does.

And yeah, I might get one. It wouldn't be my main guitar, but I could certainly see playing it in a few contexts. As part of a noise project, for sure.

Yes! All of that would be awesome. I'd love to see a carbon/aluminum hybrid. Maybe carbon thru-neck, aluminum chambered body? Also, more chambered basses that don't suck. And I'm ALLLLLLLLLLL for the notion of a Squire Bass VI that doesn't suck.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

You could put long dovetails along the sides of the through neck and the body wings... then you could change from hollow to solid and different shapes..
