Extremely fast bands that are tuned so low you can't hear anything.
Bringing full stacks to basement shows.

and as a counterpoint, bands full of metalcore bros that think they're playing crust.

bands that want to act and play hard and brutal or whatever, but, in an effort to show a "sensitive side" (since they want to have acoustic side-projects to get more girls anyways) mix in whiny vocals to try and sound dramatic.
aka: most bands promoted by hot topic.
can we call metalcore "Bro metal," or maybe "brocore?" or would that encourage them?

Drawl-pop or whatever it's called that country stations play. All of those songs can be categorized as either: 1) Girl you were the one but I lost yeouuuuu. 2) I wanna fuck you. 3) Hell yeah, American-made tractors. Those first two points apply to basically anything on the radio.
Garage rock revival. Garage rock, you are boring as shit but at least that fault sparks the motivation for me to make something completely blown-out sounding, sloppy and which at least attempts to be engaging. And doesn't sound like a carbon copy of the 60's. And wouldn't be labeled "garage".
I'm down with the idea of modern shoegaze but I'm also tired of hearing people sighing into like five reverbs. With a vacuum cleaner in the background. You can do something different with it, guys.
Another thing that pisses me off more than it should is hearing songs that try to be hip by throwing in a little dubstep-esque thing, but there's no bass behind it. I HATE WUBSTEP BUT IF YOU'RE GONNA DO IT FUCKING DO IT RIGHT MAN GET SOME OOMPH BEHIND YOUR BORING-ASS OSCILLATOR
WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, SHIT, GO ALL THE WAY AND ADD IN AN OBSCURE MOVIE SAMPLE BEFORE THE DROP

Bands being "heavy" but not LOUD. THEY NEED TO BE LOUD. IF I CAN LEAN OVER TO MY ROOMMATE AND TELL HIM "HEY THIS BAND ISN'T LOUD ENOUGH", YOU ARE NOT LOUD ENOUGH.
Bad drummers.
Garage rock, basically anything on Burger records, or half the bands I end up playing with.
Bands having girls in them, but the girl only plays tambourine and looks bored.
Pop punk. (UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)
Skramz elite-ism.
Anything psychedelic, just because you listened to the Kinks one time does not mean you should start a band with a "totally new sound".
Bands that don't have lyricists, and play boring ass instrumentals. LOOK, YOU CAN SING SOMETHING, OR YOU CAN GET BETTER AT GUITAR/BASS/DRUMS. THESE ARE YOUR CHOICES.

Bands attempting to kickstarter every shitty little thing they do. If you absolutely need to re press your crappy demo on six colours of vinyl, play a tonne of shows, hustle and try and save some money. Don't expect people to pay for you to be in a band.

Oh and people thinking they need high quality or expensive gear to play shows. This'll make me sound old and curmudgeonly by I firmly believe that you need to work with what you got and find your own sound, even if it's with the only equipment you can afford, to become a better player. I see people straight up copying whatever Brian Cook's rig is and it's like...come on, he sounded awesome when he played a shitty p bass copy in early botch too, cuz dude knows how to work win his gear.
I just don't get straight up cooing other people's sounds I guess. Put your own spin on it.
