Take it from someone who plays mostly vintage instruments with those kinds of pickups, they have a sound all their own.
You'd be hard pressed to find modern pickups that sound like that. Given his whole aesthetic, I'd never picture that guy as a flashy player. Great playing need not be flashy. The reason those old pickups sound so distinctive is because they're cheap. That fact that some of them also sound fantastic is almost incidental. Look at the rest of the gear he's using: cheapo Strat copy and a couple run-of-the-mill overdrives. That's the key. That tells you everything right there. Trash tone. That's what you're looking for.

lol. I guess I am. It's just hard to find trashy cheap equipment that will do the job this well. Although I suppose that's what they're going for, it's still a nice chimy treble

This might be what you're looking for, at the price you're looking for.
Low resistance neck pickup put into the bridge position. Putting it in the bridge position's going to make it more trebly. Don't get anything described as "overwound" as the term implies fuller and a lot more "bassy". Don't forget to roll off all the bass on your amp, and if you're using something tube-screamerish, keep the tone maxxed out.
You might even want to try a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver. They can get VERY ice-picky. I know. I have one. I have to use the tone knob and roll it almost all the way off there's so much treble.
The sound you're looking to recreate is not a sound I care for, but hey, different strokes...

Thanks buddy! I'll have to check that stuff out. See what I like.
Yeah I guess the tone is a bit abrasive, but it's what I would like to sound like

You should be able to cop this by rolling the bass off yer marshall and cranking all the twangy bits (both on the amp and on the telecaster.)
Play with a pick, accent the higher strings, and do it sloppily.

Turns out rolling the bass off my amp and using an overdrive pedal with the tone set all the way to treble does the job ALMOST as well. It's very very close! Thanks guys!
