I (officially) facebook ranted about this yesterday:

Ugh. Amanda Palmer. Poaching string and horn players. Please. You can pay them SOMETHING. I understand using local talent. But while it may be fun for the players, that gig is not going to catapult anyone into bigger and better shows. This is a predatory policy, Amanda. I had plenty of respect for her as an artist and business woman, despite her insufferable over singing.
I'm disappointed. You know what? We have a lot of guitar and synth parts on our album that we can't do as a trio. Believe it or not, we don't recruit volunteers to play them, we adapt the songs like a fucking rock band. And if someone was kind enough to fill in at a show, you better believe they would get paid, as well as hugged, beer'd and good timed.

This story is everywhere today... I just clicked on Austin News and there is another article with her talking about how important her fans are and how she can make $20,000 on twitter in an hour...

Sounds like some gutter busker got Hood Rich and don't know how to handle it or shut her mouth...

AWESOME AEN... :thumb:

Now I would play with the Raygun for free anytime...

It's kind of a cool move, all ego and circumstance aside. However, you can't expect it to work out perfectly. So yeah, I read like half those letters (which I'm not even sure who was writing what part) and it all just turned into semantic mush pretty quickly.

And Dresden Dolls were pretty cool

That was all her "defending" her choice to ask for volunteers in response to a short letter from Amy who is head of a Classical union type thing saying "Screw You and Pay Us Amanda"...

Before this, I'd never heard of her and if you'd of asked me "Who's Amanda Palmer?" I would have probably said "That chick from Twin Peaks?".

My opinion: If you want professional musicians, equipment, props, chips and salsa etc. for a tour and you can't afford it or it isn't logistically possible to provide it for yourself, you put it on your rider/contract and let the promoter handle it. If the promoter refuses to provide it, find another promoter that will. If you can't find Promoters that will provide you what you want then your draw probably doesn't warrant it.

Two things.
1. Who?
2. Who cares?

Yep, that freaky giant bride is actually Amanda Palmer.

I've heard that she dresses up like that whilst rebutting her critics online with overly verbose prose.

her little nostalgic DIY bullshit charade bugs the shit out of me. there's nothing DIY about preying upon her fans who are apparently desperate enough to throw a million at her in the first place.
