Weird.

It got panned by candy-assed critics that wanted it all saccharine like Nevermind was. It wasn't.

I kinda hear ya on the pissed off rawness of Bleach. But the songwriting on that album is pretty fucking godawful. At least by In Utero he had learned how to write lyrics.

"Teenage angst has paid off well ... now I'm bored and old."

I bought this for a buck at a neighbors garage sale.
I dig it out every now and again, and remember how cool Milk It is.
Definitely an album I find I have to be in the mood for though.

That's my entire point... At that stage even he knew he wasn't all that and a bag o' tar...

Hey wow unbeknownst to me re: this thread and maybe you re: that thread I posted this thread yesterday:

I love hardly anything more than the raw distoro-fuzz from this record. It's hard to capture... and yeah, while you could get a Turbo Distortion and try to get it that way, it doesn't work.

SOOOOOOO anyone have any ideas? The Elements or otherwise?

WOEZ random!

Buuuut:

It was all in his fingers man. He is a big inspiration to me in that respect. I don't think anyone would claim that he's an amazing player, but he was just so him. What else should anyone aspire to?

All true.

I just wish I could harness whatever Kurt was channeling when he does that first distorted slide on the E string into the chorus of "Pennyroyal Tea"... and then of course the fuzz sound after that. There really is no other fuzz sound like it.

Guess I'll just let it be.

Agree. of course. The "1st album only" snobs will not like it. I know someone who thinks nothing can ever be better than the "first release" of a band. As far as imagery, lyrics and general sonic footprint it dominates the catalog. Im particularly fond of "radio friendly unit shifter" because it echos his earlier work so well.
