I guess I'll have to check some out. Here's a question I've always wondered about. Clean or dirty boost?

I've always stood by Zvex Super Hard Ons. They've got PLENTY of boost on them, make your guitar sound great (its a clean boost, but there is just something about it that makes me want to keep it always on)

You could get something like a BAT Black Forest. "Overdriver" style circuit. It can be clean, but it can also get a little fuzzy.

I would think that those one knob dirty boosts like the Eqd speaker cranker are basically one knob overdrives like the ones I'm looking at but with... You know, one knob. And plenty of pedals have a volume knob to boost to which seems easy to work with, my delay, a comp, some reverbs, tremolos. All that kinda stuff. And sometimes I do crank my compressor or delay just to mess around.

OCD + AMP 11 sounds amazing. As long as you got a certain transparency on the tone everything will be fine. The problem comes when start to raise excesively your mids turning your sound into a big fart.

This is what i do. It's more about pushing your amp further than it is just adding gain. I do this with the black forest and I put a mxr micro amp before it when I want to add more hair to the sound. The results are nice and punchy.. which makes me happy in my pants.

Oh I know. I've heard it. I was just using it as example. I actually almost got on once. Spur of the moment thing.

TS clone into TS clone is a good recipe for ass tone. (No, that's not good.) Complimentary eq responses are important for stacking. I've found that Rat works pretty well before or after Tube Screamer, probably because of the bass roll off of the Rat helps clean up some slop.

I agree with this. The SHO is an amazing boost. Works great with everything I've thrown at it.

This is exactly how my my board starts out... TS into a Rat. That combo can get pretty thick.

Fuck into low gain mod Mantra, Boom. Set the Fuck to a light drive with a little more volume than unity, Set the mantra up pretty much the same way but with a little more grit and boost the treble and bass to kind of soft scoop it. It's my primary distortion tone now.

Yep, I had it for a few months too, if you can believe it. I definitely think it was more for guitar than bass, but with guitar it made it sound great.
