Achtane wrote:It's really dependent on the speaker and cabinet specs 'n stuff, but generally the 18 wouldn't be as loud as the 212, right? Perceptibly loud, anyway, because the 12s produce frequencies that the 18 probably doesn't. Or not efficiently.
Of course I'm not allowed to say things in absolutes but there's no way that 18 is gonna match an 810 in output unless it is a ridiculous speaker paired with a ridiculous Talkbass 4-pound class D 5-million-watt amp.
If you're gonna go the 18 route I would definitely stack the 212 on top of it rather than side by side or something. Seems like that way you'd feel and hear errthang better.

What about like...don't they make 612 cabinets that have a similar form as 810s?
Wait, don't you have a 315?

I don't need my rig to be insanely louder, a little extra would go along ways. I think your right about the vertical stacking. It would get the 2x12 closer to ear level making audibility alot better, and i think the 18 would fill out the massive low end I'm searching for.

I have both an Emperor 6x12 and 3x15 but they are both guitar cabs, I've used the ad200b with them numerous times but with guitar. I tried bass once and it was pushing the speakers a bit too much for me to be comfortable, and they will all ready be being used in the band on stage by our lead and rythmn guitar players, I'll be using a 4x12 for guitar as i usually do, and if i get the 1x18 i'll have the 2x12 and 1x18 for bass duties (i switch off depending on the song) .

You forgot the 3x15 and 6x12 on either side, with 2 x 200 watt heads and a 20 watt head. that's 12x12" speakers, 3x15" and 1x18" with 420watts of tube power...... :excellent: :animal:

Actually my drone project will use that setup minus the 4x12 and 20 watt head.

I built myself two Matamp?Electric style 2x15's and an 8x10. I haven't built any for anyone else even though everyone keeps telling me too. Eminence Legend speakers, the 2x15's are wired up 4/16 ohm. I usually use two for an 8ohm load but I can just grab one and run it at 4ohm. The 810 is 4/16ohm mono or 8ohm stereo. I'm kicking around the idea of building a 4x15.

That is awesome my friend, and really smart wiring. I've found most companies don't consider flexibility with wiring and just go for what ever is easiest what rarely ever works in my favor. So i take it you have an AD200B as well, what's your feelings on it? I personally love mine to death for both bass and guitar.

As awesome as those cabs are their HUGE, and hard to find without paying ridiculous shipping. Plus it might be a little too much overkill for what i need  If i was going for max low end and max volume this would be a great idea, but when you have 6 people in your band yu have to be volume considerate.

I have a dream to be using a 3620 for neck pickup and a 215 for bridge. 2x18,2x15, and 2x10

Hindsight is 20/20 my friend.... this is a problem that's just started to appear since we started playing bigger venues. At practice the 2x12 is enough but when trying to hear yourself on a max occupancy 800 clubs stage, when all that's coming through the stage monitors is drums and vox it's not quite enough.

Any thoughts about elevating the 2x12 while you gig so that the sound is coming more directly at your head instead of your knees? A lot easier and cheaper than any of your other solutions. I have troubles hearing my 1x15 sometimes at gigs even though I know its is plenty loud enough on its own. If I find its really bothering me I either angle it a little bit or put it on a small stand and all of my problems disappear.

It's the size of a 4x12, and shakes like nobodys business (it will rattle off a 65lb bass head in under two minutes at practice volumes). i wouldnt feel safe with it elevated on a stand. I'm fairly certain I'm going to go the 1x18 route, as I'm also interested in being able to capture more low end in our studio recordings, and the 1x18 cab under the 2x12 would put it at the perfect ear level for me to hear while playing. Really good suggestion though! Thanks!

You could also try rolling back the bass a little bit and bumping the mids. :poke:

Speaker size also doesn't have as much to do with perceived low-end as some companies would have you believe. A fridge will usually "go lower" than a single 18".
