Why do pedal builders put the LED next to the footswitch?

Just so I'm clear. Can someone give me a pedal with bad LED placement? I've never seen LED placement as an issue, unless there isn't an LED. That's a HUGE annoyance to me.

The whole, blocking the light because I can't move my foot outta the way/can't hear the effect I just turned on/off complaint, never made much sense to me.

Yeah, it's a minor complaint, but sometimes my poor foot just needs a rest.

I'm the type that thinks if you need a light to tell if your pedal is on, you probably don't need that pedal in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, I think LEDs are good, but if it's really a big issue then I think the pedal might be too subtle to justify buying/using.

An example of bad placement: Boss CE-3. LED is super dim and obscured by the middle knob.

I mean heat shrink on the wiring. Like it you run a wire from the LED to the stomp. I put heat shrink over the solder joint from the two wires so they wouldn't ground out on the case.

now i mount LEDs to the circuit board and keep them relatively far away from the footswitches because of a handful of emails from people saying that they didn't love them close to the footswitches. i don't totally understand it, but i aim to please... so whatever. makes no diff to me!

I've always tried to keep the LEDs as far away from the footswitch as posible, even if it is more trouble for me. It's more convenient for the user, and I have the same preference.

Honestly, I find two preferences: super bright LEDs like IE and Fuzzrocious do, or away from the footswitch like Catalinbread and SS/BS tend to do.

My only preference is to not have a fucking blinding LED. That shit is a turn off... Literally.
