I'm gonna see if we have a laminater at work so I can put those on a card and practice.

Great review.
My major complaint about the previous Jag was they didn’t sound like a Jag.
This one does on the demos.
Now for some reverb drenched surf.

Yeah - I totally agree on that one. I have the VM HH Jag as well, and it doesn't sound like a Jag at all. It does the Toronado thing nicely, but that's basically a standard HH sound.
This one does the Jag thing perfectly. I even grabbed an extra set of the pickups in these and stuck them in my CIJ for a huge improvement.

Totally worth it. This one has a mint guard on it now, and my CAR one got a tort guard. Both are still stock and will stay that way. I still highly recommend them.
Plus, you can get them easily at $250 from any major retailer. Just watch for when they have coupons or sales and call in.

Yea, and if you watch, MF etc will have returns, can talk them down to the 210-215 range.
I missed a snoic blue JM by about 5m, but the surf green Jag is pretty much amazing. Only complaints is the high gloss neck finish (cosmetic, not feel - neck feels and plays well) and the absolute shit job done by the assembler in putting the pickguard on - the screw holes under the guard look like they were chiselled out with human teeth or blunt screwdrivers. Plays and sounds damn well though.
I have a Mustang on the way that already has a MIJ bridge on it that should be here end of next week. That cleans me out of the Squier fund for now though.

I have one of the jazzmasters and after taking it apart a few times every single one of the pickguard screw holes needs a little filling but it's secure enough for now. There was also a little chip in the finish around each of the screw holes when I took it off the first time. Pickup mounting screws were also made of butter or something and super easy to strip.

Yea, the screws held in just fine, as they have after the pickguard change, but I can tell they're cheap screws. Thankfully I have a good set of tools.
But for the price, they can use cheap screws. I won't be changing the pickguard any time soon as it's now perfectly linoleum floor puke tort.

When I changed out my pickguard I didn't come across any issues with the screws. I DID notice, however, that there was a slight discrepency between the white guard that I put on and the tort guard's tone and volume controls up near the top horn of the guitar. One was apparently a little farther over from the other, but I managed to fudge it. They were both from VM's!

Heh, I had to pull out oa knife and play surgeon on the aftermarket tort guard on mine. It's a litlte primitive but well, it was a $10 parts bin guard in teh first place and still looks fine if you're not staring at it at 3 inches.
And well, it's worlds better than what was on it in the 'make me happy' factor.

The pickguards seem a bit inconsistent. AVRI spec'd guards fit fine though - albeit with a bit of fudging here and there.
rfurtkamp - be glad you missed the JM. There's a very good chance it was the one I returned, which was a mess. I'm pretty sure someone on OSG got the CAR jag I returned in the same way, and they put a ton of work into it to get it playable.
Plus, when you can get a guaranteed new one for $250 easily, it's worth the extra $30.

Yea, I'm happy I missed it at this point, I know the guy selling me the Mustang and he's a notorious flipper of gear and doesn't let out problems. We've done business before and I harassed him when he ordered the Mustang a couple months back to get it in Sonic Blue so when he sold it to me I'd have the color I want.
Will be interesting to see how it compares to my '69RI Japan-market model.

If it's anything like my Jags compared to my CIJ Jag, you'll be playing the Squier more. I like my CIJ, but the Squiers make me wish there wasn't sentimental value to it so I could sell it.
