skullservant wrote:"The Sunn heads have 4,8,and 16 ohm taps on the output. Only two are brought out to the back panel depending on the model. The Sceptre has 4 and 8 brought out with the 16 tied to a lug strip on the inside. When you plug in to the jack marked 4 ohm, it switches both jacks to the 4 ohm tap so that you can use either two 8 ohm cabinets or one 4 ohm cab. I wire my home built amps the same way. I own about 10 tube Sunn amps and one hybrid they called the "Solos"

I'm going to talk to Dunwich and see what he says. I was looking at the schematic of the amp and I believe it might be able to run at 4 ohms. Maybe this will just be an excuse to get a Delta Pro

i looked at schematic and I believe this is correct.

Well thats good news. Thanks man. Didn't want to blow up anything when I turned it on. If I dig the head enough when it arrives, I might be getting in touch with you about possibly replacing some caps if you're down. I don't believe any have been replaced and I'm sure it would benefit from it!

On a side note, interested in playing BlindToFaith's FAC Off! that I just aquired through it :!!!:

Thanks bud! The only thing I'm worried about now is that I'm used to my bass board being fed into the overdrive channel of my Peavey, and from what I've read on the Sceptre, it doesn't break up on 10. So I might have to look into a decent drive or bass EQ to put after the board just to give it the sound I'm looking for for bass. ONLY TIME WILL TELL. I know it will be perfect for guitar, however :D

I dig this amp! When I unpacked it, I switched my guitar cab over to 8 ohms so I didn't have to risk possibly screwing something up right out of the box. A tube went microphonic, but when I went to switch it out, it was quite obvious that the tube was really, REALLY old, if not original, a Phillips. Swapped it out with a NOS Conn 12au7 I had laying around and good as new. It's ridiculously loud for only 60 watts. Like stupid loud. The clean tone is killer! And the fact that you can mid boost is pretty neato as well. DAT SPRING REVERB.

Heh,,, so that custom Verellen cab is going to be too short for the head :( oh well!

Awesome my friend!!! Glad to hear you like it!!! Those heads are deceivingly big but sound huge, hopefully it wont be too big for the cab though.

I got the cab 22x22x16, I think the new Sunn is 24" long, so it'll hang over a little bit unfortunately, but no biggie. My only concern is the feet might miss the edge of the cab, but my fingers are crossed!

I think I will be putting a Delta Pro 8 ohm speaker in just to be on the safe side with it. DelayDecay said he was interested in the 4ohm one that is coming in it, so it shouldn't be much if anything out of pocket for the new speaker! Plus taht Delta Pro has a wider frequency range :D :D :D

I'd never gotten the chance to play true spring reverb before.... all I can say is no pedal could ever come close to how beautiful that reverb is.
