I feel naked when it's just one. Not more than 6 in my pop/regular playing band. The drone outfit is a whole lot different.

0-3 in my live signal, 0 to 7 in my looped chain.

Usually a bit of delay, though I've been appreciating dry violin sounds for a bit now. In two of the three songs we currently play SS/BS/DFAS OD features in over half of their ridiculous durations. (Also: ACRONYMS!).

I only ever have my Memory Man and Fuck in the chain really, the El Capistan I use looping/always on to echo measures, and I use that in one song, so I can have seperate loops coming out of different amps. There used to be occasional Wah, and I may try out a few different ones before I abandon that idea.

In my loops chain, I can have all of them on at the same time. I generally mess about around a bunch there. I like combining the HOGS filter to get a whomping low end, then chopping that with my Tremolessence and manually fucking with the rate and depth on that to get some pretty extreme low pulses of varying speeds.

The stuff we're doing now is kinda Meat Puppets/Yawning Man/Crazy Horse-y instrumental jams. Think the Puppets version of Lake of Fire... and be thankful you don't have to deal with our practices.

Since I'm on bass I'm kind of just laying back and keeping the head nodding. Voila--Singing Tree. For the stonier, doomier stuff, since I can't entirely escape my musical DNA, I've got a muff clone.

I have a whole 'nother batch of boxes for noisemaking, but that's my entire "board."

at least one--the Space Echo reverb--is always on. typically i'll have 2 or 3 going, usually reverb, some kind of fuzz or distortion, and perhaps some modulation. often two fuzzes get run in series; the tremolo gets used with almost everything; and i use the EF for everything from synth sweeps to faux Stephen Stills wah-wah pedal with verb and compression. i usually don't get more than six or seven of the 16 boxes on the board going at once, because almost half are fuzzes and it'd go critical; i do get synth-board stuff going with a fuzz>RV-3>tremolo>envelope filter>flanger>verb>compressor chain. with two or three fuzzes on they generate enough signal noise to act as a white noise generator and the board becomes a primitive modular synth. once i get a ring modulator i'm going to do stuff where i loop using the board as an instrument; i should be able to get more pitch-value stuff out of the RM.

Wicked. Very wicked.

I want to get a Sleepdrone or something to use the board as an instrument. Loops are cool for that, but more... you know. Stuff.

I always use a reverb, no matter what. Then maybe delay, fuzz, overdrive, maybe a phaser at any other point in time. Plus the POG2.
So anywhere from 1-6.

1-5 (fuzz, phaser, delay, trem, reverse delay) but mostly 1-2 (fuzz, delay).

I always have my English Muff'n on for a pre-amp. In my four piece fuzzy band... almost always have a fuzz or OD on as well. In that band I'd say 3-4 on at one outside of my Muff'n. However, in my three piece band we're trying to rely on the music and how we play our instruments for dynamics so my board is much simpler. I'm thinking of sticking with a Cosmichorus and whatever fuzz I choose. I'm liking having the cosmichorus on all the time and using fuzz for when I need sustain... so maximum two pedals on outside of my Muff'n pre-amp.

3-5 usually. I rarely go 100% naked because, well, pedals are fun.

0-6, probably 1 or 2 almost all the time. Clean is generally just volume rolled back but sometimes real, no pedals clean! One of two fuzz pedals for dirt, upper and/or sparkles if I want moar dirt, phaser and delay whenever. Getting a ring mod soooon so I'll see what I do with that.

I almost never go clean without anything else, so i'd say 1-4

usually there's at least delay

i know about one song where i'm playing absolutely dry clean... it's scary

GardenoftheDead wrote:Fuzz almost always on, I've take to cleaning up with my volume knob. But it can be anywhere from one to four effects on with the wah included now. Usually if the wah is on I'll leave the flanger off, though, just so it doesn't get too noisy.

To clarify:

My basic clean (no fuzz) sound has Flanger and Delay just because it sounds bigger.

Once the fuzz is on, the Flanger/Wah usually only come on for leads or smaller parts here and there. I'll sometimes use to delay to make rhythm sound huge, but where there's a lead, there's delay.

I'd say 4 at the max. Usually 2 are on 99% of the time.
