Dude's comin over at 5 to talk turkey.

His has the hershey bar in the neck and a black dog-ear P90 in the bridge!

And yeah! They sound great unplugged! Semi-hollow FTW. Gold sparkle flecked mojo toooooooaaaaaaaannnzzzzzz.
PS - Kay Value Leaders have a similar (if not slightly beefier) neck profile and construction if you're digging that Stratotone. I dig those a ton too.

btw, Elwood, do you do paintings for Bearfoot now?
yea....i think i did 24 for him in january. i don't know if i'll do any more...no time soon anyway.
value leaders are just fukking great guitars. i love the maple necks and they are HUGE. it seems that Kay was one of the very few that did maple necks on the budget line.

One of the few guitars I actually regret selling.

Yeah, the Value Leaders're nice, but I like my Kays to feel either more or less solid.
I've got a Vanguard with these same kinda pickups. Absolutely slays. Mojos.

Needs a little TLC in the electronics area, but feels and plays great.

Are the pickups balanced? Do they sound good together?

They do sound good together. Really good actually. Super warm, almost like a jazzbox or something. They are almost too balanced though. Can hardly hear it when you switch between them. And there's not much high end punch from the P90 (compared to another P90 that I have in another guitar anyways.) And the tone pots are wired weirdly (they click like there's an off position on the pot, and they're wired so that CW does the high cut.) Definitely want to get under the hood (or have a tech get under the hood, as the case may be) and see about tightening some of that stuff down. Structurally all is well though. Won't take much. Have half a mind to throw a Teisco gold foil in the bridge...

Good news. Seems like a nice find. Have fun with it.
All my guitars have some age related issue or another, there's always at least one little thing wrong with each of 'em. It's to be expected. Seems like you got off lightly.

Wow Kosta, nice score!
I had in the 90ies an offer to get one with the tube amplified case. I didn't get it. Vintage stuff was (still is) sometimes scary to me. Today i just think "Man, should have bought it

".

Amp-In-Case Silvertone was my first guitar when I made up my mind to start really trying to play. I'm a huge Flat Duo Jets fan and just couldn't get over how good Dexter Romweber's guitar sounded. That started me off down this Silvertone/Harmony/Kay/Etc. rabbit hole. Try one some time Uni. You might just like it! Way different feel than a solidbody Fender though. And it is kinda nice to get something newer and make it your own, but there's something special in these old shortscale midwestern working class boxes.
PS - Sorry for the thread-jacking MLC!

I don't think MLC cares about silly thread-jackings. He's probably too busy playing his newly acquired guit.
(BTW, I'n sure Dexter Romweber could make anything sound good.)
