Slight derail, could someone post some songs with bass delay? Not One of These Days, though. I already know that one.

Don't have a real answer, but the only reason I've got a delay on my board for bass is because it's in a feedback loop.

My minimal setup is really only two non-tuner pedals, but I've never really cared for compressors or most modulation on my bass.
1. Tuner - I like my pitchblack
2. Rusty Box - on all the time I never play without it anymore. Last show I only took my Rusty and Fuck
3. Fuzz - I run either an Arc Flash (in black) or TAFM
4. Mod - whatever works for you I guess. I'd choose a ring mod

I have:

Korg Pitchblack
T-Pedals Overboost
Wren & Cuff Pickle Pie B
Boss PH-2 Super Phaser

Works for me! Thought about adding my Nimbus but I play with three guitarists and it seems to get lost.

You could also get an M5 to cover the tuner and non-fuzz stuff and then get a whole ton of fuzz.

If I were going to do a serious minimalist board, this is where I'd be at.

B3K or The Elements for OD/Disto
Pickle Pie B or Depth Charge for fuzz
IE Xerograph Deluxe for modulation
Boss DD-3 for Delay.

That's it. Fuck tuning. Tuning is for bitches.

Also delay sounds good with bass. DUh that's why you'd need it CBA.

for your girl: overdrive -> fuzz -> tuner-> trem/chorus/delay/something fun

personally: overdrive -> pt2399 based delay -> glitchy fuzz -> huge fuzz -> trem

For what it's worth, I LOVE the Sea Machine on bass, and you can get some great faux-'verb/slap-back delay sounds out of it. If you were looking for just one modulation pedal on bass, that'd be the one I'd suggest.

Thanks again everyone! Man I have a lot of options to consider and look into (afternoon with YouTube and a couple of beers, aw yeah).

I'll also spend some time running her bass through my own not-small pedal collection.

I'll keep everyone updated and will take some pics of whatever ends up being the result. You guys are the best. :)

For a while, I ran a hyper minimalist setup that was

Boost->Rat->M5

My tuner was currently broken, and the M5 sometimes was in a feedback loop, but I could still (and just may) gig with that set up.

I agree. Particularly if you are listing Cure/Smiths. When I think of those bands recordings I think of that 80's over compressed sound :thumb: A lot of people [who are wrong] think of a comp as something to fix your playing dynamics... Not so it is a effect that has many uses for tone shaping :thumb:

So

for a basic:
Tuner [if you must]
Comp [either at beginning or end] [Demeter, Orange squeezer clones, old MXR Limiter are my faves]
fuzz [too personal]
trem/chorus or phase [season to taste]
filter [old DODfx25 or bassballs, MXR]
delay
you can do most things with that really..
