I've gotten good at that Nels Cline/Tom Verlaine reallyquick vibrato without using the whammy on any of my guitars.

ah but thats simply up (and only up) and back to zero to a max of AT BEST a 3rd or minor 3rd as opposed to up to AND down to octaves with much more control.
