Multi pedals tend to suck really bad at OD/distortion kind of stuff, though. For everything else they can be pretty cool though. Some of the dirt settings approach acceptable on the M series, but you're really much better off with dedicated pedals for that.

That's why I really dislike them in the long run. I'd rather have seven pedals so I can mix and match and figure out what sound I really want as well.
But for starters for modulation and such they're great to figure out where to go from there.

This. The M9 is a great choice. Awesome to noodle around with and having everything you can imagine at your finger (or toe?) tips upon the spur of creativity.
...oh, and it has like 9 compressors.

So is icy hot on a broomstick getting shoved up your ass while you eat fresh poo out of a 92 year old's diaper and jerk off two full grown bulls for lube.

Well I guess I figured out
what home-made porn i'm shooting for the next few days.
fix'd that for ya.
urm...... really, if you don't know what you want, pick up a Line6 M5 and a Team Awesome Fuzz Machine. TAFM can pull off some decent overdrive, does some of the best fuzz on bass and just rokks. also, if for some insane reason you don't bond with it, they hold their value pretty damn well.
the M5 has decent delays, a very good down octaver, good fun pitch shifting stuff, some decent modulation stuff like reverbs, tremolo and filters and a bunch of horrible crap distortion. again, just starting out with effects on bass, you're honestly probably not going to notice or obsess over what is "wrong" with most of what the M5 does. it's a very solid multi-efx unit.
i could be happy with an M9 (the M5's bigger brother, same exact effects, just has a looper, easy switching between effects and lets you stack effects) a good fuzz pedal and a good filter.

Nah :whatever: no delay or modulation is necessary
as long as there's enough fuzz tones, so there needs to be first two or three rude fuzz pedals and/or dirt for sorting out the different flavors You'll be needing. All the rest can wait.
And the4455 rite of classy bass passage?

Nah, Fuzz Face. Brassmaster. One should consider a second time supporting a cult of anything Younger than You are Yourself. A sucker is born every minute, as a marketing rep said.

But the forcing side to it sounds totally ILF, good old classy ILF.
