Instead of wasting time with the Xavier, which many people find to be worse than affinity strats, look for a used Vintage Modified Jazzmaster.

I've seen them as low as $150 on http://used.guitarcenter.com, and in good condition. IMO, it would be a much better choice that you'd be happier with - as everyone I've seen with a Xavier has thrown more money at it than the thing cost.

Thanks for the heads up man. I appreciate it. I am definitely getting a new guitar as I destroyed my affinity squier today. I will look into the vintage modified and see if I can find one in my price range!

How/why?

And I didn't know that about the xaviere guitars, if they are that bad getting one is probably a bad idea.

I took the strings off and unscrewed the pick guard with full intentions to put in the new pickup, but then I started tinkering around with the floating trem and got this really weird idea to make a tabletop guitar. So i stripped all the electronics out and cut the bottom of the guitar flat. I think I'm going to use it for tabletop drones. Sounds kind of stupid, but the tuners on the Strat were going to shit and I already tried replacing them once. I've been doing some research and I think I found an affordable Fender Jag that I can drop the 90's in to!

Yeah, people over on OSG often end up getting them, then gutting them, upgrading, and then being out $500 on a cheap guitar. :idk:
I've seen enough horror stories over there (as well as experienced some awfulness with Guitar Fetish myself) to avoid them for good.

Plus, when you can get a VM Squier for $150-$200 all day? There's not really any comparison. I've yet to play a bad VM, so you're just better off going that route.

It's between a VM Jazzy and a Blacktop Jaguar!

or you could go really deep and spend what, $300? $350? for a J. Mascis Squier JM and get a really good guitar with no apologies.

This just happened....... :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!:
Got it for a fucking steal. Watch me like the humbuckers so much that I don't actually put the 90's in. I guess if that is the case that will just go towards the recoup fund... AH

Good find, I was suprised when I played one at GC, also my friend got a blacktop tele with the same humbuckers and the tone is outstanding, yes I will say it, I nagged him for getting an HH tele but they cover all ranges from soft melodic to super heavy.

maybe it's because i'm a fender person, but fender squier kick the shit out of gibson epiphone, ESPECIALLY in the lower end market.

Never played a Gibson Epiphone before! I loved the Squier Strat. Just wish it had better tuners or tuners that could drop in more easily that locked.

low A on 24" scale length seems a bit floppy to me...

25.5"= works fine w/ a .056 and up!

Gonna get it set up with a nice thick set of strings, I'm not used to anything lower than .56's now!
