That a LB paintjob?
i'll have to search for that tone--so many knobs!
yeah, it was a nos piece she painted--i lucked into it.
the thing about Muff-type fuzzes is that there's so much variation between the different sub-types...an op-amp Muff doesn't sound much like a green Russian of the Wren & Cuff TFR sort at all to me. you've really got to pick and choose carefully for the exact sort of sound you want.
if you like that kind of sound and Muffs haven't been to your liking, have you considered a Rat for more snarl and less compression? or a Buzzaround clone like the Sound Shank or the Ghost Effects for an extremely compressed Fripp-like roar?

you can get some very Muff-ular tones from the Bloom, no doubt. as well as some Great Big Rat From Hell sounds, and a bunch of other wonderful stuff. but it may not get the exact thing you're looking for. you've just got to listen to days and days of demos of different boxes and pick out the little subtleties and differences between them, how one Civil War Muff clone sounds a little plastic-y while another is broken up and grainy and so on. you really can't say "you want one of THESE" because in many cases there are twenty different versions--literally--of THESE, all of which sound slightly but noticeably different. by now i must have spent at least two weeks' worth of 24 hour days just listening to fuzz/distortion/OD demos...that doesn't even bring into account the modulation, filter, delay, and reverb demos

Thanks for the great discussion and suggestions! I love the way Big Muff's sound and like I had previously mentioned, at present, I've only tried two variations; the Little Big Muff, which sounds a tad sterile to me and the Hoof, which I found to be a bit too clean. I enjoyed the Fuzz Face as well as the Hellephant (FF clone), but have a slight preference for the tonal capabilities of the Big Muff.
I do presently have a WF Rat on my board, which hasn't moved for ages.
