Yeah, this turned out so much better than I even thought it would. Not bad for a high-dea.

I just thought of a Rat. :idk: I've never owned one. How does it compare to the Sovtek BMP? A lot less smooth? How heavy does it get? Probably better suited for the "gaze" board?

Well the feedback knob that's built in already does a pretty good job. esp since the switch lets you choose between 3 choices. Off (no internal loop) Wet (functions like a normal feedback loop where the total output is sent back to the input and SWPT where at the end of the lfo phaser is the starting point so eventually you get a kind of Y junction inside the loop going where parts have tons of feedback and another delay line doesn't have as much if any. that's where the Alien Cricket Noises live :animal: I generally get it set close to that point, which generally sounds like a fucked up lopsided flanger and then set the feedback loop up high enough for that weirdness to start happening. that way you can have crazy ring mod flanger guitar playing then stomp on the feedback momentary switch and have crickets eat your amp. Need a few more patch cables to try out this newest noise board setup but I'll probably do a little rig rundown afterword. :)

I'm doing pretty much the same thing you are, one board for doom, noise, etc. and one for more traditional tones.

Board #1: Doom and Noise (Big Board)
Phantom Ring
Sparkle Motion
Year4545
Eau Claire Thunder/Robot Devil
Faye Sing
Mini Ark
Wow and Flutter
Atomic Clock
Mad Doctor Stutter
Reverberator

and...

Board #2: Simple Guitar
Spooky Tooth
Fuzz Fight
Bad Stone Phaser/Vibe
Decimator

How does the Nano Muff compare to the black Russian? I think I found one hella cheap, but I want to be able to use it.

The Nano Muff is not actually a Big Muff at all. It's a remake of the old EHX Muff Fuzz, which is a much lower gain two-transistor circuit.

This thing:

you're using the Phantom Ring...i love the PR. i need to find the room and the power-supply capacity to get the PR back on my big board. right now the main board is a huge insane thing:

TC Polytune
Pigtronix Philosophers' Tone
EH Octave Multiplexer
Mellowtone Hi Five
MXR 70s Distortion+
Earthquaker Tone Reaper
Earthquaker Sound Shank
fuzzhugger (fx) Algal Bloom
EMMA DiscumBOBulator envelope filter
TC Electronic SCF chorus/flanger
Ernie Ball volume pedal
Boss RV-3 reverb/delay
Menatone Pleasure Trem 5000 tremolo
Earthquaker Ghost Echo reverb

and i still want to add a Prometheus Deluxe or whatever they call the upgraded model and a Randy's Revenge. then i have the looper board with two delays that loop, and the rack with the three delays and the MIDI controller.

for the small board i just want to have an OD, a fuzz, a modulation, a filter, a trem, and a reverb...maybe a delay. for the OD i'd be delighted with another old D+; i also like the AnalogMan AstroTone a lot. for the fuzz i could use the Velcroar i already have, which i love and which is a heavily underrated fuzz that's more versatile than people think--with the ROAR set over to one side it does a nice Tonebender-y thing, and on the other it's Rust Never Sleeps--but i'm also tempted by the Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian, which actually could split the difference between OD and fuzz. for modulation i'd have to hunt around to find something i like more than the TC; the cheap Ibanez Tone-Lok boxes sound decent and would make me giggle every time i looked at them because of the Tone-Loc thing. similarly, i like the EMMA much more than the other EFs out there...it's got a much warmer tone to my ear. for a "normal" board i'd probably get a trem like the Fulltone or the Swamp Thing that does the Fender-style tremolo. on my budget it's hard to imagine finding another reverb i like more than the Ghost Echo, but i'm willing to be convinced. i have no idea what i'd do for a delay. probably replace the Flashback on my looping board with a dedicated looper and use the Flashback on the small board.

or get another RV-3. they're dead simple and sound good on any style of music.

and i still need to find a 12-stage phaser for the big board. i want a TC XII for the full Slowdive, but they're hard to come by and ungodly expensive when they appear.

don't wanna look like a dick, but Boss PH-2 is a 12-stage phaser if i remember correctly and it's one of my favourite phasers of all time

i realized that if i get another filter pedal like the Prometheus DLX or the Iron Ether for the big board, i can move the EMMA over to the small board assuming that the other filter will do the faux wah-wah pedal stuff i can do with the EMMA. i don't mean yer Mutron thing, i mean actually simulating Neu!-style/Stephen Stills-style wah with the filter box. i love that sound, but i HATE wah-wah pedals.

i've also been looking at the Earthquaker site, and i could just about do a whole small board with EQD stuff: Chrysalis->Sea Machine->Dispatch Master. if i got a Sea Machine it's more likely i'd put it on the big board, though, and use the TC on the small board, where it'd be better suited to the normal settings. the thing that makes me hesitate about a small multi-function box like the Dispatch Master as the reverb is that i like a lot of adjustability on the verb.

shit, i should get one for feedback loops...

i don't have step phase capabilities right now, and i want one badly for feedback

Yeah it's so good, mixes quite well with fuzz. Plus it's one of my cool rare pedals since its the second version and handpainted by Pat Corrigan. It is a little different from the other PRs though as this one has one side taken from the Upper and the other is channel two of the Phantom Arcade. So with I can get ripping octave up fuzz or glitchy, splatty fuzz with ab hint of octave up or down.

I think you're mistaking it for a PH-3, PH-2 does NOT have a Step Phase mode

not a fan of PH-3, but PH-2 and PH-1r are awesome - like one of the best bosses i've played

sorry for hijacking the thread... i see where are you going with this, Snipel, but by some strange coincidence, i'd probably not need it even if i'd play in two different bands... it can sometimes save time and effort to try to find tamer sounds even in crazy boxes and try to use everything everywhere - even though maybe not up to it's full potential. I personally can't really imagine doing it
