Boss tremolo, MXR Distortion+, Peavey Classic 30...there's your low-budget Americana setup right there. solidbody Ovations are fantastic guitars, the Preacher and Viper and such. Epiphone Masterbilt acoustics are excellent, and now that most of the line has been discontinued they should be cheap as chips. for an reasonably-priced acoustic 12-string the Alvarez jumbos offer killer value. and nowadays i see old Roland JC-120s for $600 or less all over the place...if you like loud, old, and solid-state it's your season.

people poop all over Mexican Fenders, but good ones are perfectly fine guitars. they tend to be a little more variable than USA or MIJ Fenders, but that's not enough to justify the general bad rap.

similarly, there's a lot of axe-grinding (no pun intended) over quality-control at Gibson which goes back a decade or more when from my observations current production appears to have dealt with those issues, and complaints about their pricing which seem unfair compared to higher-priced models from other brands and Gibson's introduction of more models in the $800-1200 MAP zone. sure, i'd like a $1000 Les Paul, too, but when a PRS goes for $4000 and an Eric Clapton Strat for three, is a $2000-2500 LP out of line?

Fender Custom Shop Strat and Tele pickups. they're very reasonably priced for name-brand aftermarket PUs and sound fantastic; i have one model or another in all my Parts-o-casters. nobody ever seems to talk about them when aftermarket Fender PUs are discussed.

Also, I think Univox is pretty underrated.

univox is hella underrated. <3 my Grace. neck like buttah. like inbetween a really flat ibanez and a fender.

the little Electar Tube 10 amps Epiphone put out a few years ago through MusicYo are screaming little amps with an 8" speaker that you can get for $200 or less. i put a Jensen C8 in mine, had a beefier output transformer installed, and had it made self-biasing, and it KILLS.

i used to have a Univox amp that was a tweed Deluxe clone that was the BOMB.

+1

I can't believe what little mention Digitech get, and they rule - have done since the 80s.

newer gibsons aren't bad quality wise, they just (IMHO) play like shit :idk:
