Interesting. Good to know. I'm new to Fender offsets, so I don't know beans about any of this stuff.

Yea, CP has the trem and bridge a little further forward to increase break angle and improve a few things. I'm happy with mine after over a year (and as added bonus you can fit a Roland synth control on the strap pin on the CP Jag/JM - can't on the regulars,
and use the LP bridge mount for the actual hex pickup for the most lazy installation ever).

May want to check out how it's wired as well, there are sometimes changes from the "classic" Jag/JM layouts, although again, happy with my HH and the coil blend.

Yeah, I've def read about some interesting mods for the wiring already. Something about one where the rhythm circuit didn't disable the other controls sounded cool to me.

If it doesn't match the radius, are you saying that it is impossible to adjust it to be correct or that you got it set up and can't tune it so that the intonation is right?
A lot of you guys seem like you have an aversion to setting up your own guitars, I'm just curious as to why

No doubt the best! Quality engineering right there. I have mine on a 2004 CIJ JM and I have to say that it is money well spent. Try OSG to find a used one. Maybe.

I don't even NEED one for my Jag, but I'd like to get one because of how harmonic and full of life it made my Jazzmaster when I had it

I just put a Mastery on my Custom Shop JM, goddamn that thing is nice! Simple install, zero string buzz, both sustain and resonance increased dramatically with that tight fit of the widened posts. Saddle design kicks ass for use with the trem, and only four well placed intonation screws that somehow intonate all six strings with ease while not getting in the way of that break angle like those on the standard bridge. Oh, and it's a cool brushed finish to boot. :thumb:

As for stability, it's fantastic! Haven't had any change in my setup since installing a few weeks ago, solid as a rock. I think it's a good investment and the drop-in install makes it easy to swap if you end up with a different offset.

I know I need the extra thimbles they sell, I'm guessing a bit of body drilling/filling is in order? Never done anything like that myself :erm:

Yeah, you could purchase the body thimbles from Mastery, then it'd be a matter of drilling out the appropriate sized/spaced holes in the body, install thimbles in said holes, then just drop the bridge in and you're golden.

Well, you guys have convinced me. Just ordered a Mastery for my Mustang, I'm assuming it should get rid of some buzzing I get and my strings hit the intonation screws on the Mustang bridge.

I would love to know how this turns out. I have a CP jag (w/ humbuckers). I pick pretty hard sometimes and I found that even with the tune-omatic I was getting quite a bit of string buzz on the high E sometimes. I put a buzzstop on it, and it tamed the buzz, but because of the different trem spacing I found it put too much tension on the strings and made using the bar difficult. So, I flipped the buzzstop around and it's now very manageable, but sometimes I find I have to persuade it back to being in tune after I use it. So this setup has it at about 98% for me, but now I'm thinking of one of these, but the price is a bit to swing on a bridge for me.

Mastery bridges are available for Rickenbackers now. I'd be real curious to try one on my 330, but not really making enough money / playing guitar enough for a $200 upgrade.

To tell you the truth - I traded that Jag towards another guitar not long after I had it all set up with the Mastery, so I didn't get to spend that much time with it. Afraid I don't have much intel to share... Seemed very solid and very stable though. And it definitely had a nice ring and sustain to it (as did a Jazzmaster that I had with a Mastery on it.)

i love my mastery - my only issue i had was that it kept dropping - blue loc-tite fixed everything. Solid now...very solid!

I would consider trying a vintage (or correct) mustang bridge first. The ones that don't have gaps between the saddles - and see if that solves your problems.
I've been playing Jazzmasters since about '92. in my case, I fought the original bridge for a few years before I switched to a mustang bridge. I happily used that up until a few years ago, when I bit the bullet and sprung for a Mastery.
There was definite improvement with the mastery. But it's not without it's problems. If you're pained by the saddles lowering themselves on the original bridge; and you hate using wax, snot, hairspray, nailpolish, loc-tite, voodoo or whatever to keep those saddle screws from working their way down - the Mastery isn't the be-all-end-all. Mine had been waxed and now Loc-Tite'd, and it still (*shakes fist) finds a way to rattle and lower.

In retrospect... was it enough to warrant shelling out for one? No.
Would I shell out again? No.
But would I take the Mastery forward, to another guitar? Yep.

The mastery is still great, but I think there's a better bridge that's slightly cheaper and stays more faithful to the original sound of the jm/jag, the staytrem bridge:

I really dig the one that came with the johnny marr jag. The price seems a little steep but when compared with the mastery, it's not bad.
