Anyways I like all their records, the snl performance was as good as one could expect from a television performance.

Yeah, on their last tour, they played Madison Square Garden once, the Canadiens arena in Montreal, and then some minor-league hockey arenas that are about half the size of the places the Keys are getting ready to play. But at their peak, they were playing big ballrooms and theaters and doing three- or four-night stands in the big cities.

i think its so you can whip between toan settings really fast. like say one song needs a certain kind of fuzz, and another song requires the same fuzz at a different setting, it gets rid of all the fiddling.

but rack gear can do SCADS more than anyone has ever done with it. like if you look at some demos for say the Axe FX that dweezil did, they're NUTS with what they can do tonally, but no one does it. all anyone does is have different amp mods for each song with their metal toanz tweeked just a scooch different for each song

I'd really like to get a programmable truebypass looper for that same reason

Dweezil uses the fuck out of the axe fx in ZPZ. replaced his awesomely huge and overkill system. the fucker sounds great.

you're right about the appeal of having a rack set up is the changes can be programed for massive effect changes with stepping on one button. and the other plus is that nothing is in the signal path unless it's on. so the amps are quite as possible. not to mention the ease and quickness of setting up.
sure you can get by with a pedalboard and there's nothing wrong with it.....but there nothing wrong with taking up a notch either.
it's more for people that don't play the pedalboard as an instrument, rather just change the effects in their music.

Auerbach's solo record is actually my favorite thing he has done in several years now, and it was way different than the early Keys stuff. I'm just bummed that after "Tighten Up" (the worst song on Brothers IMO, tacked on at the last minute and the only song on the album produced by Danger Mouse), they decided to have Danger Mouse co-write the whole new album rather than stick to what made them good for all these years. Seems like a cash/fame-grab rather than organic stylistic evolution.

Yah, this, but partly because I just haven't gotten around to listening to any of their non-duo stuff. The few singles I've heard aren't bad, just kinda different. I think they did take the whole garage-blues duo thing about as far as they could.

That said, I recommend people check out Blakroc, their hip hop collab. It's pretty sweet. It has that groove similar to their earlier stuff, but is more produced and hip hop-like but still mostly comprised of Dan's playing. I'm someone who is pretty damn critical of hip hop, so it's cool to here something with more emphasis on instrumentals and more of a garage-type sound.

i actually really like the new album, yeah it's different from what they did before, but those old releses didn't disappear, i can still listen to them any time. plus it is so much better than brothers which sucked ass imho.

only thing that kinda bothers me is that dan is all preppy and shiny nowadays, he used to be this dirty lumberjack dude and now he's wearing suits and ray bans on the gigs, c'mon, that really seems like label pressure or something ("try to look pretty for the gals, you sell more records that way")

From what I've seen, he just looks fucking creepy trying to be preppy and clean. That dude needs a beard and a sad demeanor.

I heard that Dan uses a Tone reaper and an Ibanez standard fuzz.
The Black keys was in my hometown couple days ago in Holland but I forgot about the concert, really wanted to hear their new stuff live. I'm gonna check Blakroc soon. Mos Def also played in the new Dexter serie, cool dude!

I love me some hip hop, but blackroc was MOSTLY whack on the rapping end. Beats were cool.

yep, but he died within like 4 or 5 episodes. last season was terrible throughout.

I liked Brothers and El Camino...
