it's usually crap singing that makes bands unlistenable to me, because the singer(s) tend to be mixed way out in front and to be a large part of every song for the typical band. for example, one of the guys who sings in ...Trail of Dead bugs me so much i can't listen to them. or to cite a more talented singer, Robert Plant makes it hard to listen to Led Zeppelin at my house.

probably the most frustrating example for me is Jimi Hendrix. the Experience was always hobbled by Noel Redding's quintessential guitarist-playing-the-bass style of bass playing, and Buddy Miles really couldn't play the older material for shit in the Band of Gypsys as can be heard on the complete NYE concert recordings. IMO the only decent backing band he ever had was the Hendrix/Cox/Mitchell trio that he played with in the last few months of his life. as a result, i listen to bootleg Hendrix recordings way more than any of his official releases.

Yeah but they aren't really too shoegazey in my opinion. They definitely have layered fuzzy guitars, but it's more alt-rocky to me. Regardless, I can watch MBV or other bands stare at their shoes, this particular song and even other songs of theirs that are even faster paced... they still stand their. I mean if you're playing fucking slow gazey ethereal music, sure... but this song has a beat to it and is pretty damn easy to dance to. i'm not saying move around like you're Iggy Pop... just have some pep in your step.

I've noticed what you pointed out about Hendrix, I always felt the live recordings/videos I've watched it seemed like he was all alone out there in the sonic spectrum.... then again he made it a point to stand out. But I'm sure a proper bass player could've accompanied him better.

Also, feel free to point to local bands if you want, those are the most fun.

I don't see anything wrong with saying I'm a better entertainer/musician than someone else unless I clearly cannot compete.

this is some offensive shit.

YES.

Derivative shit like this disgusts me. Apathy is offensive, and disgusting. Apathy is an epidemic, and it is a waste of life. It offends me as a human who gives a shit about the state of affairs, it offends me as a musician who is dedicated to my art.
People who pretend to have no ambition but are playing in a band that clearly rehearses and "writes music" and appear on fancy ass rooftop videos disgust the shit out of me. I shitpuke on this band. Don't fucking bullshit a bullshitter, man. I know when I'm being lied to and it makes me sick. BWUAARRRGGGHHHFFFFF.

I don't mean to be a fucking prick here, but this band and this song are an amazing snoozefest. I see Yuck listed around certain like "HOT NEW BANDS" websites and video postings and shit, and geezuz... do people like this SIMPLY because it's a throwback? I'm not a band-against ranter, but this blows asshole. Just poseur simulacrum awfulnessness. Does anyone say "poseur" anymore? 'Cuz this is it.

In Ann Arbor and Detroit in general, just about EVERY band has an infinite amount of songs that are just TWO FUCKING CHORDS and oh boy it's such a hot jam. I'm not exaggerating about these facts, either. You do TWO CHORDS and you're done.

I DO feel like a fucking prick for ranting like this, but we're inundated with this kind of shit, and we're constantly fighting against it... TO NO AVAIL.

And yes, MY BAND is much better. LOUDER. FUNNER. FUZZER.

p.s. Tame Impala does a way much more so much better "version" of the shit Yuck is doing... no, it's not that close, but as far as bigger buzz up-and-comer kind of bands, Tame Impala is very good. *Side note: Tame Impala also don't move around that much, if that matters.

Totally they went from being occasionally mentioned to all these year end best lists :idk: , when they rereleased their debut album with
the bonus disc I was stoked cuz I liked all the bsides more than alot of the album cuts.

Word, as far as Yuck goes, I enjoy the melodies and song structure they're playing with, but their general attitude and way of doing it leaves a lot to be desired. I love their song "Get Away," but watching them play it completely took away any energy I once felt.

also, what aen said.

when i listen to Yuck, I hear 90s alt rock, but not shoe gaze. their songs are alt rock pop, and they looking at their shoes, they just look like any minute one of them (besides for the drummer because he has a fro and eats good food and therefore is happy) would take out a gun and blow their brains out.

Playing music shouldn't be like working at a fucking wal mart. i mean, playing music for a living is a job, but fuck me if it isn't better than working some dead end job doing shit work.

the way you guys rant about your local scenes and bands that just seem to pop up out of nowhere becoming the darlings of taste-makers everywhere is what has been going through my mind and been making me pissed the last few weeks.

my band is better than we get credit for... and i don't care who calls me out on that.

Meh. I guess I just don't worry about it.

The whole "They're ripping off bands who crafted an image of not giving a fuck... and they look like they're not giving a fuck! fuck those guys!" setup of this thread strikes me as funny.

Yeah, but it's the affectation of the shit that's gross. They're ACTING apathetic. That's worse than being apathetic.

I get super-depressed sometimes, but when I blast some fuzz, or have the opportunity to blast fuzz with friends in a band for people at a venue, it's pure energy... pure release of the shitty frustrations I have, and somehow, almost impossibly, THAT = JOY. This band shows none of that.

So fuck these kids for acting apathetic. They're fucking fine, they have a bunch of money, and they're Billboard "Tastemakers".

I'd be apathetic if I was in that band, too.

And so... everything has come full circle.

The lesson, then?

Don't write shitty music.
