I think the "full retail" $299 is a fair price for what it is, making it competitive with many other tube amps of similar wattage, despite all of its unique quirks. I am hoping to find a deal on one shortly after they are released, though, due to the fact that I am a cheapskate and loathe paying full price for any gear.
If you need a good laugh, search this amp over at TGP, those guys "can't believe this amp isn't in the $600-800 range" (!)
I like it, but I definitely $300-or-less like it. Beyond that price point there are plenty of other offerings I would consider.

$300 does seem about right for the package, but it also seems they half-assed some features. trem is a nice touch, but why add it if you are sacrificing some tone controls or fleshing out the trem controls. drop the trem altogether and give me a tone control and put something over the back and it'd seem a lot more worthwhile. As is, it seems people are speculating on mods when fender could've just put out a solid amp to begin with...or maybe it rock

13 watts from what I've seen. Typical for a lot of tweed-era Fender designs. The echoes of that stuff is what intrigues me and what probably engorges the TGP crowd.

Buy-scratch off deets on back-remove "Excelsior" name plate-TGP Flip-laugh all the way to the bank. But I think it's cool-looking, if only marginally intriguing. More wattage would heighten my interest

looks cheap & needs different knobs, like chicken heads or something other that won't look like breaking off at first touch.

I agree with a lot of the comments about the tone controls, but not the open back. I love old Valco/Silvertone type amps and a lot of those have no backs either. I suppose it's a preference thing, but I like it.
