This definitely must feel "bass" at least in the lower two strings, the instrument itself is for exploring droney tunings so the top 4 will be changing pretty consistently.

I do wonder if building an instrument is better/cheaper than obtaining a Bass VI or suitable bari sans tremolo and adding it. Ultimately the type of trem doesn't really matter to me so much. Bigsby'd Hellcat could be badass...

Hm... If I did decide to go down the 'build one' path, though, I suppose my main concern is electronics. Specifically my lack of knowledge of electronics. What sorts of pickups for Bass Vi's - historically they've just been guitar pickups, right? Could this be improved upon/Suggestions for godly roaring bassy bari pickups?

They are from what I remember overwound guitar pickups. There is a dude that makes reproductions but they are not cheap..

Here is my only issue with tremafying something... if you don't know what you are doing bad things can happen.. if you have it done it might be spendy :idk: A strat style term system will take the tension I know that and floyds are fun on a bass VI if you want another option then the jazz/jag system :idk: . The only down side to sticking a bass neck and a guitar [which is fun  ] is where the neck pickup will be.. on a "real" bass vi it is up further cuz they didn't use a 24 fret neck which is what you must have to convert a guitar into a bassvi 21 fret 25.5" scale guitar body + 24 fret 30" scale bass neck [has to have the fb end at the bottom of the neck not overhang] = poor man's bass vi

Yes, In a month or two Fender Japan will be releasing a new version of the Fender Bass VI. It will only be available in Japan. But, music stores in Japan will export them. Cost? Around $2,000US. They will have trems. And official word from Fender USA is they WILL NOT be imported by or released by Fender USA. Fender Japan operates as a separate company. Besides, Fender USA is making good money selling their USA Custom Shop VIs for $4,000+ a shot.

The Japanese VIs - http://waveform.free.fr/osg/oIMG_9558.JPG

The 2012 Schecter catalog was just released download it at http://www.schecterguitars.com. The site has not been updated yet to show each one individually. Only can be seen in the catalog right now. The new Hellcat VIs look pretty sweet. Has real Duncan Jag pups. But, no trem! They are also releasing a Robert Smith UltraCure VI. Same as his own stage model according to RS himself on THE CURE site. Has his signature and fretboard illustrations/graphics if you like that sort of thing. Same electronics as the HCVI but all mahogany (weighs a ton BTW.) No trem. This 2012 RS model does have the same electronics as the new 2012 HCVI.

Ugh. I guess the japanese one is a little more vintage correct, a wider bridge, I guess? I saw some posts where people were being quoted $1200 for the new Bass VI. Good thing I gots the hookup in japan!
