Bit Shifter and Nullsleep is my jam. Had LSDj for a while, but as others have stated, the learning curve is quite steep, so I never got really into it.

Both good stuff too and Kplcrft (I think...is how you spell it...not going to 8bitpeoples...that thing got hacked a bit ago). gwEm and Counter Reset (I think they are more amiga zx spectrum though) did an awesome "live" album that I thought was funny. I really really like animal style (trenchvent, esp.) a lot too. Nothing beats Mr. Spastic "Claps and Leads" though. Hardliner did a few good tracks.

I never had LSDJ, just nanoloop which I found easy and the songs I did on it were the first recognition I ever got haha (I didn't even know they were on myspace at the time and I don't even have em anymore). I think it was the only time I made something people liked haha.

I'll need to check some of those guys out. Chiptune never fails to make me happy. Random are also pretty good.

Here's the documentary that really got me into this stuff:

Pretty fun. There's one called 8-Bit Europe as well, which is also an interesting watch.

I've been meaning to get a Gameboy micro and LSDJ/Nanoloop to make some sort of Trip-hop/Shoegaze chiptune stuff. 8-bit Noirgaze.

That's probably what I'll end up doing once my pedals sell. :idk:

I was doing a harsh noise project with an OG Gameboy and Nanoloop years ago but it ended up getting stolen by an old roommate before actually getting any recordings done. Maybe I should try to get one again. Anyone have opinions on how the iOS/Android Nanoloop apps hold up against the real thing? I assume there's a significant sound difference.

Just make sure to get the right nanoloop. They are tuned different for the OG hardware and the various emulations in the later gameboys. My version of nano loop sounded terrible (and partially didn't work) through the andvance sp.

If you get one of those carts where you can load things, you should check out 8cyclinder's free programs...makes you want to have more than one gameboy...they are for live use...get an emulator and try them out: http://rhinoplex.org/8cylinder/softwaredevices.html

Side note: seems like a lot of his chiptune stuff got taken down off his site? He was always borderline anyway.

You know, I instinctively don't want to like their newer stuff, but "Pop it" is so catchy it hurts.

I feel it. I wanted to really not like it, but fuck its catchy. I love it now. Really interested to hear what [USA] is gonna sound like. They're playing in my area at a local con too, wish I could go.

Anyone wanna recommend me some chip albums I need to hear right now? Pretty much only have heard Endless Fantasy and one Starscream song.

Also got this yesterday.

Was up till 3am last night learning LSDJ's interface. Think I have a good grasp of it now. Just gotta try and make a whole song with it. Should be posting the first results of using LSDJ with something else today.
