Anyway, Matamp amps are awesome, but I've heard a couple of touring horror stories about their bigger amps. Part of the reason why a lot of the guys who brought the name to people's heads have moved on to other gear.
I´ve been checking out the Matamp owners forum and it seems like every 100+ watt model Matamp makes bail out on people. They have stories of both tubes and trannies that give up even on brand new amps. The horror... the horror...

Would that make 200w? Is there any difference between OR120s & GT120s
I have seen models of both amps witch different knob configurations, some have a boost knob, other a presence knob.
Is it just the name on the knobs or what?

4 x Kt88, yea in the range of 200W.
The circuit is slightly different on the Matamps as compared to the Oranges. The FAC is located before the tone stack in a Matamp, sometimes after the first gain stage and sometimes even before the first gain stage on the input. In Oranges the tone stack is before the FAC. In the GT120s I think the phase inverter is DC coupled while in the ORs some of them are AC coupled. Some differences but close circuits over all. Theres even differences with same models over different production years

One caveat: Joel has gone out of his way to poo-poo Matamp UK at the benefit of his own brand (Electric). And Matamp makes absolutely killer heads, no doubt about it. They just don't seem to respond well to running hot for, say, every single set for the duration of a band like High On Fire's early tours (in regards to number of gigs and volume).

I mean, if any band is gonna be hard on gear...

If you click the FAC back two notches, it's plenty tight for palm muting. I generally run mine with a boost in front. Although at ungodly volume, its almost unneccesary. I use quite meaty pickups though. so I just dial it in with the volume rolled back and knock it up for leads.

So, I've written. To Matamp three times for a price and no reply. Thinking maybe an Orange OR50 instead?

Will it do for aggressive playing? Like fast power chord riffing and one string palm muted stuff.
I understand that this isnt a high high gain amp but im here cuz i love fuzz so any body know i this amp loves fuzz?
And yeah i know about Dunwich Amp and would love a Wizard, but since its a small production in the states it would end up being too expensive with customs and shipping.
go listen to holy mountain and get back to us. all matamp sounds, i believe...
FUCK YEAH HOLY MOUNTAIN. TRUST NO ONEEEEEE.
Also for the price man....id just get a verellen. I mean i know the look is going to be diff but as far as quality for money verellen beats the pants off matamp. The head unit i have experience with ran hot as fuck and sounded great but i didnt consider it to be worth almost $3000 bucks. Played a combo that was fantastic though.... Also the idea that certain amps are "doom amps" and will only work with slow playing is fucking stupid. I dont know who atarted that way of thinking but they need their heads examined. Here are some examples of matamps played fast...
Dragged into sunlight have so many matamps it isnt funny. They mustive had 20 grand worth of mat amps on stage when they played here...

Holy Mountain is Laney AORs. Sleep didn't find Matamp until they were touring the UK in support of Holy Mountain.
Dopesmoker on the other hand...
Any more info on the rigs for these records? (First post sorry)
