I need to try thomastiks, but I hate even the idea of flats on my Grabber.

Flats+P bass=Motown as fuck, so, yeah.

:idk: can't say I like them myself. Not sure if you will like TI's though if you don't like most flats, they go way deader then chromes do, they play bouncier though :idk:

i'd keep the rounds on the p and put the flats on the other.

in many situations, flats are lovely. i do agree that in genres or styles that require raw and bright attacks, rounds are king...

but flats on the right bass/tune/song whatever are wonderful

alexa. wrote:^also depends on the music and the band you play in.
if the role of the bass is allaround like in Tool for example, rounds are the way to go.
but in a "sonically normal" band, flats are the cat's paws.

My archetypal bass tone is Jah Wobble on PIL Second Edition.

Ive got Pyramid flats on my Warwick Corvette.

Hell. I've got TI flats on both of my six strings, too. My favorite guitar strings of all time.

Dunno... the fretless i guess  that'S a nobrainer...

i played a fretless Fender Jazzbass with flats a few days ago... SO MUCH INSPIRATION. and i'm not even a bass player... never tried a normal bass with flats

at my house we're all about the flats on bass. i have Rotosound flats on my fretless Jazz Bass, and Dan has nylon tape wound strings on his Ibanez semi-hollow short-scale bass.

I've tried flats on my Musicman and it sounded dull and lifeless. Strung that bitch up with rounds and it sounds fucking killer! Not sure if it was the flats I tried or what. They were Rotosound and too expensive and shit sounding. HATE.

I have Thomastik Flats on my Musicman Big Al and rounds on my Lakland P bass. I really like how the flats interact with most effects. Currently I'm playing the Pbass with the band (I like to dedicate a month on and off to my two basses) and the rounds sound great with my overdrive of choice. The home recording stuff I dick around with I do almost exclusively on my Big Al though...the versatility comes in handy. The clip below was done with the Thomastiks.
