Unloaded almost all of my noisemaking stuff, and most of my pedals and amps, both for money and simplicity. More toys did not = more music, so I am attempting to keep things lean and mean, and I will add things back in as I see fit, but I need to start writing more and stop dicking around so much. I don't think there is a perfect amp for me, there will always be pedals in my setup and that's fine.

Someone teach me how to sig this! EDIT- I learned something new today
I think once in a while you realize the gear you own isn't useful for the musical direction you are heading in. Of course that's stupid if the musical direction doesn't require at least 2 fuzz pedals.

nah. if i don't like a guitar or amp, i don't keep it, but i have a LOT of keepers.
Even if it isn't getting used today, it might tomorrow - life is long, and I plan to play as long as I can hold a guit.
I'm so glad I didn't trade away my Vibrolux earlier this year...I must have been nuts to even think about it!
on the other hand, fx-wise, i do this almost every 6 months, a pedal at a time
trying to chill the fuck out in that regard...I have some keepers now.
I think Klon, El Cap, Honey Bee, Whetstone, and Lo-Fi Loop Junky are in no danger of going out the door.
fuzz....fuzz is tough. I'm not sure I can be satisfied there.

Nowadays I only sell when I'm desperate for money or I'm after another piece of gear. But it's usually the former.

Like i sort of wonder if i wouldn't be happier going into like a tuner and a overdrive or single utilitarian fuzz into a 1 knobbed amp.

Just the thought of starting over

I will confess to having a thought about the massive hookers & blow party I could throw after selling everything, but there's no way I'd survive such a shindig.

I occasionally have the thought that everything I'm doing is total fucking bullshit, and that I should just fucking quit and sell all my shit.
Then I realize that's fucking retarded.
I need more stuff.

I've done that once before, when I moved to the US from Brazil. Sold all my gear (3 guitars, 1 bass, 2 amps and a ton of pedals). Slowly started buying gear after I got settled here. I might sound a wanker for saying this, but since I bought my Rickenbacker, I feel like I don't really need to buy any more guitars - the ONLY exception being a Jazzmaster. Once I get a Jazzmaster that's it for me, no more buying guitars. Amps and pedals are still fair game though.

Yup! I was rather lucky as the first ever job I got happened to be around the time the market exchange haywire. I sold my pretty modest board, bought some stuff with the intention to sell, sold em and with the profit and funds from previous sales and really happy with what I ended up. If I look around and count up $$$ wise it's not far off from what I had and I feel like not only do I have more choices but they're the right ones too.
I darno; might not work for you folks in the US or even UK/Europe as you get taxed on EVERYTHING. Whereas we only get it for things over $1,000AU and even then I usually can get the seller to list it for a lower amount and not get stung with anything. Feel for you guys

But you have to feel for us... our local prices are and always will be fucked:
LINE6 PX2 power supply retail: $139.95 CURRENTLY!
Fender Mexico: still mostly $900-1,000 but pre-2008 the 'Classic' series retailed @ $2,199 or something? and were $599 in the US!!!
etcetcetc. so yeah! That's my excuse and I'm sticking by it.

Usual long post is long.

I did that, happier than ever w/ my gear
I have ballin ass electrics, a ballin ass amp and a few great pedals and a few ballin ass ones
however I only have a few electrics, one amp and very few pedals
tis a trade off I'm happy I made

I've sold my electric, and bass. My amp is almost sold, and I'm still trying to move a bass cab. That's all my stuffs, other than a crappy Japanese acoustic Yamaha that I plan on keeping.
I don't really know what the fuck I am doing.

I'm really happy with my scaling down so far. I was jamming out earlier and because I only have one tweaking pedal (el cap), I stayed in the moment more rather than getting lost in "wait, that could sound better, let me fix these knobs..." etc. Expression pedal also helps.
I'm looking at getting another fuzz or two, because stacking isn't doable with just one dirt pedal, and stacking gain is fucking awesome. & possibly a DD3 to contrast the el cap/stack delay/ run delay on multiple signal chains. & If I do start running multiple signal chains, probably a looper, but right now I'm trying not to think like that haha.

inevitably, since i now have one board crammed full of stompboxes and another full of looping gear and a dozen guitars, i want to get one good 000 acoustic and sit in a chair fingerpicking. but happily, i don't have to do either/or...my roomie-to-be Dan and i can play all kinds of shit, from country to gypsy jazz to brootz.
