Star people? This just turned into a Funkadelic concert or something.
The Electro-Harmonix Germanium OD is pretty excellent. I lurve mine. I usually run it with the gain cranked, and it's still not crazy wild by any means. It has a voltage knob too, so you can get all sorts of fun vintage to wacky sounds.

More people should be getting Speaker Crankers.

The speaker cranker and singing tree have definitely caught my interest. I guess for what I'm looking for a "dirty boost" type pedal would probably be best, My only problem with the one-knob boosts has been that the volume gets too high before I get to the drive amount I'm looking for. Seeing as how the speaker cranker is meant to add a little grit, this might be the best option. Wonder how it would stack with the singing tree. If we're gonna get real OCD (no pun intended), I would say that the maximum gain/drive I'm looking for out of this pedal would be about the same as the Fulldrive 2 in comp cut mode with the drive around 11 o clock, but without the Fulldrive's tone control. so....yeah....

I love my VFE Pale Horse
My friend needed a low gain OD and the VFE Blues King pushes his Leejackson Ampeg "just right"
It sucks being on an OD jag cause I have to watch all the blooz demos.
My next step is tweaking a 250 grey.

A Pale Horse is what I'm using right now. I wouldn't mind keeping it as a midgain option for a bassier type of overdrive, but for my main drive, it doesn't get pushed past 8 o clock on the drive knob, and I feel like I could get more benefit out of a lower gain pedal so that I can utilize more of the drive knob because it has a more usable range.

I've been trying to curb my impulsive posting, but this post is just to awesome not to validate.

These are the ODs that immediately come to mind. I have a Timmy and it's awesome. I also have an LTD on the way. Looking forward to giving that one a go.

I'm going to give my tube MP another try tomorrow I'm not sure if it does subtle well.
My use for it was to crank it up into an SVT for that Sodom Bass Tone (the band not the butt secks)

My most recent pedal purchase was the KAEDEN DRIVE from Fuzzrocious.
Like you I too searched for a low gain od with some character. It boosts, sustains and is capable of clean and dirty tones....I recommend checking it out. I thought I would just use it to boost through lead lines, but I use it for alot more than that. Check out the Dark Driving too, it might be something you are interested in too.

I'm not sure that I'd recommend the Dark Driving for this application.
However, it must be said that Ryan's a kickass dude to deal with.
