Most of the time when I fuck around with fuzz, I just play some old great garage tune, like-

or

and yeah, lots of Stooges.

This is basically what I grew up listening to in the house all the time, along with my dad telling me stories of being a punk in England and getting his ass saved by both joe strummer and sid vicious at concerts (before they were anybody important).

As funny as it sounds, the very first song I always play when trying out a new fuzz on bass is "Gratitude by the Beasties. And yeah, Dragonaut is fun, too, if I have a wah or filter with me. And Sabbath's N.I.B.

Wait, N.I.B. and Dragonaut aren't the same song?

I plugged in my Devi Ever Rocket earlier today, I managed to break the shaft of one of the volume pots a while back, but I repaired it with Blu tack and it works just fine. I've just gone through a stretch of playing without pedals (which I tend to whenever I'm using my Les Paul, I have also misplaced my patch leads, and one of my longer cables is on it's way out), and for some reason, the Rocket just makes me make up shit on on the spot, The way notes interact with each other using it, I found pleasing today. But I did play a bit of Pumpkins, mainly "Plume" which I remember PumpkinPieces playing with it on the first ever demo I heard of that pedal. The opening riff of Geek USA sounds badass through it too. And of course, "Rocket".

It's a bit too gated to do most Dinosaur Jr on, but I think I played a bit of "I Want You to Know" too.

Really wanting an IC Muff of some sort though. I'm making it one of my goals next year to save up and get a clone of one, maybe even a Silver Rose

This is my favorite song to fuzz out to, I was thinking for awhile what my favorites were and couldn't think of anything till I read this, Hello Kitty Kat or Pissant are really good too for the more furious types. I enjoy doing a fuzzy version of "This Protector" by the White Stripes, thats pretty fun.

I haven't learned too many new songs recently... maybe I should work on this as well.

Neil Young songs ("Down By The River," "Into The Black," "Powderfinger," "Cortez the Killer," "When You Dance," "Slip Away" in particular). "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)." the lead to "Heroes." Grateful Dead solo/outro jams in the early 1980s style (e.g. on "Let It Grow" or "Saint of Circumstance") where the rhythm section played extended and bitonal chords allowing the leads to do all kinds of weird harmonic/chromatic shit. "Crossroads" and "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream...i seem to fall into "SOYL" all the time since i started playing the sunburst Tokai. and "Ziggy Stardust"...there's something about those first two chords that just cuts through everything. it's like a medieval fanfare.

I like to play Neil Young songs with a Phantom Octave and it's all Mudfuzz's fault lol, also" I Wanna be Your Dog" and the entire "You're Livin Allover Me" album. But really, I scarcely play covers. Also agreeing with the "Plume" sentiment. That is usually a phaser "litmus test" for me. That and the Isley Brothers

I don't play covers out, but I do play other people's songs when I'm bored or stuck on an idea.

When noodling around getting fuzz sounds jamming anything by Davie Allen and the Arrows is a fun time for me.
