i think hendrix will always be my favortie. bought his cd when i was like 13-14 & have worshiped him since (whats weird is i didnt pick up a guitar for like 9 more years lol). & if we're only talkin favorites, i can only think of 2 more.

waylon jennings - not known for his playing but he was killer. wish there was more recorded where it stood out in the mix more, or even showed it off.

john lee hooker - but that really goes for any of them northern mississippi cats, john came first in my life though

No. Freaking. Way. She's probably my favourite musician ever. I guess that doesn't really mean that much, but it's pretty cool anyway.

GOOD CALL, especially on D. Boon. I'm an asshole for forgetting that one.
Also, John Cipollina from Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Most of my favorite guitarists are like singer/songwriters which everyone would find boring, I like Neil Young, Jeff Tweedy, Nels Cline, Jack White (although not as much now) Josh Homme.

I think that Conor Oberst and Dallas Green are brilliant in their subtleties and songwriting

The shortlist:
classic rock
David Gilmour(He's the first on this list for a reason)
Jimmy Page
these two guys are why I picked up a guitar in the first place. Along with Cream era Clapton, but I wouldn't call him a favorite, just a strong influence.
Mick Ronson

indie-ish rock
Jack White
Steven Drozd(IMO the most talented all around musician ever)
J. Mascis(Dinosaur Jr. completely blew me away when I first heard them. It was a "Why didn't I discover this earlier?" kind of moment.)

Funk
Eddie Hazel
Eddie Hazel
Eddie Hazel(listen to Maggot Brain NOW)
Prince(Seriously, most underrated guitarist ever)
Freddie Stone(Definitely not a "stand-out" guitarist but he was crucial to developing it's role in funk music. Great rhythm player.)

Other
Tom Morello(I have so much respect for the way he approaches the guitar)
Sonny Sharrock(don't think anything needs to be said 'bout Sonny)

Billy Corgan is a huge inspiration to me. Probably one of the first times in my life I heard such massive sounds on record...Too bad he's a righteous pr*ck. Anyway, he inspired me to pick up a big muff and swap out the pups in my strat for the lace sensors.

Marc Bolan is also one of my all time favorites. NO EXPLANATION NEEDED
