those pickups make me sad. It's not like they'll sound bad but, they look ugly as shit on that body. Also, why not sexy maple and why the fuck did they hire a fifth grader to write his name on the face of the headstock. I also can't help but think that this is somehow related to the KC jag.

Of course it is, in the same sense that they're both related to the 20 year anniversary of Nevermind and the money involved in reissuing all this shit. The reissue includes a DVD performance at the Paramount in Seattle. I recently saw it aired on that Palladia channel and it was streamed online for a few days. It's actually a really solid performance, Kurt before he was too fucked up to play/care.
Can you guess what guitars Kurt and Krist were using at that particular performance?

Their own models, duh. How else do you think they got their signatures on the headstocks?

Nirvana's also a textbook example of why indie guilt can be a bad thing.
Start out worshipping Melvins, gain fame by releasing a (relatively) pop record, try to establish your independent bona fides by recording with the Big Black guy and getting more abrasive....
I feel like Nirvana has unconsciously become the blueprint for the quintessential doom/stoner-rock band of tomorrow.
