They've also got a different bridges from a usual jm/jag

Sorta a jm/jag-mustang hybrid thing going on in the jazzmaster, and the jag has a tuneomatic style.

The Blacktop Jag is H/H, stop tail, with an adjust-o-matic. No trem, no rhythm circuit, and a three way switch.

The Blacktop Jazzmaster is H/S - a humbucker in the bridge, and a normal Jazzmaster single coil in the neck (surprisingly it's a very nice sounding one...), Basic trem without a lock, no rhythm circuit, and modified, sort of Mustang-like bridge saddles.

Both are good guitars if it's what you're looking for. Plus there are all kinds of people that have converted the BT Jazzies into essentially Classic Player Jazzmasters for ~$150. I've seen a handful of people doing the full routing work for them.

Ok well here is a second question, this one involves personal preference (pretend I don't have any, manipulate me) what is the general consensus on the HH Jag CP's and the Standard Jag CP's?

I played a humbuckers one and it sounded fine. From what I've heard, the ss one sounds pretty much like the hh one. The thing to keep in mind though, the ss has a the rhythm circuit but, the hh is a kill switch with vanity rollers (down is no signal which makes no fucking sense but you can fix that). Also, no matter which one you pick, I recommend changing the trem to a jap/usa as, in my experiences, the stock CP ones are absolute shit and break if you have the nerve to use them.

I had an hh classic player and didn't bond well with it at all the pickups were loud and buzzy when I wasn't playing
and I still have the black and chrome hh with no trem and its my favorite guitar ever!

If you go with the blacktop jazzy, at least change the bridge. They can be great guitars, they just need a little tweaking from stock hardware.
