i think the only tropical islands that don't have a proliferation of laid back chill music are like... the indonesian islands with gamelan n shit.

well, when it's like 98° and 100% humidity all the time, cultures tend to develop forms of popular music that take the least amount of effort to play and to dance to. otherwise everyone would fall down with heatstroke and shit. and there's nothing like people having convulsions to ruin a tropical party. unless it's dancehall...then people just think it's regular dancing
