hmmmm sounds like time for a youtube search for cable comparisons..... I've thought about doing one but i'd want more custom cables for a true shootout. Right now i could do cheapo / monster / livewire / canare gs-6 / and lava elc, but i would like to have some mogami cables and a lava coily to try out too and an evidence audio cable just to see what the differences are. i can believe that coiled cables have a different tone, just not my cup of tea. I'm also interested in a speaker cable shootout also..... Maybe if we can find enough people in one area with all the different cables we could set something up, i've got all the recording gear we would need and the studio.

I use a Bullet coily cable, never had a single problem with tangling, it's just awesome.

Now I'm finally putting a real board together, Lava Mini solderless mini kits seem to be the way to go, but damn I'll have to buy two for $160, better be worth it.

yeah I could never justify the cost of the lava I have soldered some of my own and seem to like that route, I have a set in the garage where I soldered and then filled with silicon epoxy, just experementing but might be a fun way to finish them.

Mostly the boards have live wires pedal cables and I have never had a problem or noticed any signal loss, I do run a buffer early in my chain and keep extra noisy stuff in a TB loop

Hit up "The Riffer" on here, he might be able to help you out, also they pop up on ebay every once in a while for cheaper. IMHO their amazing for custom pedal boards cause you can cut each one to length for exact placement and the fittings allow for super close fitment for a cluttered board, and the ends are completely reusable and you can buy the cable in bulk if you ever have to completely redo your board. Plus if you've been using cheaper patch cables you will notice that your pedals react differently, i noticed an immediate difference in the response and clarity of all my true bypass pedals and how they react together.

Yeah I live in a small dorm room and have no experience with soldering, so the fact that they are solder-less did appeal to me. Also the custom length thing should help tremendously in keeping my board neat.

When we did our comparison both me and my friend agreed that the livewires actually outperformed the monsters, the main difference i noticed was in background noise, we heard a noticable amount more witht he livewires than the lava, but the tone was alot closer than the monsters. I've totally come to the conclusion that monster is just an overpriced well marketed name, the only products of theirs i like are the speaker cables, and theres a reason they offer lifetime warranty's.... cause you will have to use it if you gig out alot or tour.

I have replaced so many monsters on friends boards with homeade cables because they break so easily.

I imagine if I got rid of my buffer and noise reduction there would be a real audible difference with the live wires.

room-mates love smelling solder, and if they don't it was never meant to be

I thought this thread was started to keep me from going insane at work but I guess it could be about cables

I'm sure they wouldn't mind

It's more the fact that I'm not at all handy and impatient

yeah I hate waiting for stuff, I have become better though
I usually turn on my soldering station and then walk away for a few minutes
otherwise I am constantly poking at it

I'm interested in the Lava solder-free kit, personally. Glad to hear they're good.
