Yeah, AVRI sales should not be affected by $400 Squires. I do predict they'll sell a shitload at this price though, finish is sexy as hell too which should help!

that is a perfect example of everything i dislike about gearheaded musicians as opposed to "song writing" musicians that write songs and use whatever is laying around to get their own sound.

i would say that i can't believe someone would actually write that, except that i can. :shrug: but the real point isn't that those awful lumpenproles will buy JMs, it's that people like me who like JMs OK but not so much that we'd spend $1200 for one actually might buy one of the Squiers. now if they'd just do a Belinda Butcher model Jaguar, i'd be a really happy kitty. i guarantee they won't be able to keep these things in stock at Guitar Showcase in San Jose. at a $400 street price, they may not even be able to keep them in stock at Guitar Center for the first couple of months.

Talk about being so far up his own asshole tha he thinks the sky is brown! Everyone has this tunnel vision of only knowing what life has been since they started playing and assuming it's never been different before. When introduced, Jazzys and Jags were top of the line, but Strats made a comeback and the offsets became cast-offs for kids who couldn't scrape the coin for a Strat. Persisted to some extent into the 90s and probably changed more back then because of collectors than shoegaze or grunge. So why is his more recent reality so special?

It's a bit of a golden age now in that price isn't making people's choices on what kind of guitar to play. If the guitar isn't what you would choose, well, people are different.

exactly...the reason folks like the Sonic Youth guys had JMs up the wazoo was because you could buy them for $200 in the late 70s. nobody wanted them. everybody was all about the Strats and Les Pauls then, particularly old Les Pauls which were the Holy Grail. in fact, i bought a 1968 ES335 (which i still own) in 1975 for $200 which had gone begging for a buyer for six months. same thing with Teles...as late as the mid-1980s used Teles from the 60s and 70s were still going for $200. THAT'S why all the punk bands seemingly played Telecasters. people think that all the indie musicians were making deliberate aesthetic decisions when in a lot of cases they were playing the only decent (or useable!) stuff they could afford.

I wait ages for a guitarist I actually like to get a sig. model, the TWO come along at once (Graham Coxon's getting a Europe-only signature Tele).

I do miss my MIJ Jazzy sometimes, if the price is right on this, I probably won't anymore!

I wonder what would be considered those guitars for our current generation....it seems if it's from the 60's the prices just sky rocket. Although I have seen some great deals on vintage Gretschs...

They will probably be all the classic vibe, blacktop, vintage modified, and signature guitars fender/squier keep putting out. In twenty years when fender shifts production to mars people will be all like,
"Why would I pay $700 for this COM jaguar when there are all these squier jazzmasters in pawn shops for $40?" Then all the squier prices will shoot up and we can sell ours for a billion dollars and buy zombie Clapton's signature strat.
