the 5 knob supercollider is my favorite muff style pedal. the mids and depth controls make it extremely flexible. EQD 3 knob hoof i had sounded super good too, i'm really kickin myself in the ass for lettin that one go. i also own one of the first run black russians with the big heavy box that has the glossy finish but not with the huge footswitch. i've used RI NYC muffs, little big muff, bass big muff, tone wicker muff, and had like 5 black russians. the russian i own today is the best of the EHX's ive tried. most likely due to it pretty much being a green. i don't gig with it because its not the most reliable build but thats where the supercollider comes in. the jacks and pots on russians are laughable. i'd like to try an LSTR and a Manx. the W&C Tall Font looks pretty rad too, but i think the supercollider is good enough for me at the moment.

This is the problem with every Muff-based fuzz I've had (including the Hoof), and it's a real bummer since I've loved them all on their own, but my band must be too loud or doing too much in those frequencies or something. The only exception to this was a Wampler Black '65 into a Pharaoh, which provided just the right amount of cut, but in the end I got rid of both.

That's kinda my beef with the Sovteks. I have a trashed Green Russian sitting here I'm trying to decide between reviving to stock and selling, or replacing all the crap hardware and keeping.

Dude this is gonna sound ridiculous but I play in a two piece and my Hoof couldn't cut through over just the drums. I've never had a pedal do that before. I had my amp turned up so loud and it would be loud as hell and sound awesome then my drummer would start playing and it was like someone turned the volume on my amp down to like nothing. It was seriously ridiculous.

My Black Russian didn't really cut. It certainly did the Wall of Fuzz quite well, though. The 'collider's the same way:
Overwhelm them with volume and bring down Satan. In a box.

Now the 'stache, that can actually cut through with the toggle in the middle position, the "no diodes" option I think.

But I have to ask, what amp were you using OB?

I was using my friend's old Crate Palomino and I tried it on our bass amp as well. My ac30 wasn't working at the time.

Yeah the black russian doesn't cut through too well either unless you have the tone knob like all the way up. In my experience at least. I kinda liked it that way anyways when I was using it all the time.

The Hyperion and Manx are officially on my radar.

Flip the Hoof and the Monarch, pretend that the Digiverb is a Miniberator and throw a Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop in front of everything and you have my current board. I've never (Not once, ever. Like, ever ever.) had a problem cutting through with it, although I tend to keep the Shift knob at about 2 o'clock. Or it could be that it's loud as fuck and just drowns everything else out. Either way, the Hoof rules.

Had a Black Russian, liked it, but it never sat well with me so I sold it. The first pedal I bought was a Way Huge Swollen Pickle, and its great for the gazey type of drowned out sound. I love it for that so much.

I got a NYC muff in a trade with the tone bypass, and it works ok, I just crank the sustain and volume up all the way, bypass the tone and it seems to do alright lol, sucker is loud as shit

Fred if I were you I'd just crank your Sunn an buy an El Cap for the gaze. Your Sunn sounds like a Big Muff dude.

My Green Russian clone is my favorite pedal of all time. So much thud, bang, boom. I like it because it's not super sizzly, more hairy then anything I guess . The blend lets me keep the basic sound of my bass there, and lets the fuzz I stack it with to shine just a little more, that being pushed by a Pork Loin and a Mini Gnome, then into a Dark Boost Moves mountains, destroys them and then makes new ones.

Ronsound HP'75 - I am wondering why I sold this now as it was a very versatile fuzz pedal, could get nasty and with the mid switch cut through any band situation.

Bluebeard - Reminds me of a green meets ram head muff. Sounds better with 6550 power tubes than El34's. Think I am going to sell her soon as my quest for the muff continues.

Nah, I bought this one straight from Jamie as soon as I saw them announced. This one's #783 and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.
