Thanks everyone! Apart from maybe a couple of things, it still seems that these guitars imply the target audience is metal or jazz players almost exclusively.

What about oddball noise heads, psychedelic freaks, and people mixing things up?

Yuri Landman?

Honestly... I wouldn't use an 8 string unless I got in a metal band and needed to play low. I personally can't see a reason for one.

Dano made a 7 in the late 90's, so did DeArmond/Guild.

Exactly! More involved chords, thicker drones, epic results with alternate tunings, the sheer joy of playing the low notes like on a baritone...

You might just have to get a metalz axe and put steel guitar pickups in it, and refin it :idk:

for me its the matter that range should have pretty minimal impact on the music made, by and large.

it just seems like having your cake and eating it too, but its a really small piece of cake.

Not exclusively for metal or jazz, but it's not exactly oddball either. Super affordable though :thumb:

take one of the above; add G&L pickups, or better yet Gretch FilterTrons with blade polepieces; stir gently and serve with a Roland JC-120.
