I got mine used for ~$120 (a trade with Sanford and Sonny). They pop up used once in a while..

The dudes at Tronographic took the preamp section of some very high-gain Traynor amp and shoved it into a pedal. It is by far the most touch-sensitive and dynamic overdrive I've ever played (theavondon and behndy use it as a preamp, running it directly into a power amp, where as I just use it like an overdrive/dirt pedal). It gets MEAN dirty, too.

Most of the time, I can keep a nice overdriven tone on the first footswitch, with the boost switch, it gets thick and gnarly (and I keep the input gain between noon and 2 o' clock, but I have a fairly high output bass). You can put it after any bass-cutting pedal and it'll bring back your boom, or a variety of other tone-shaping scenarios.

As behndy phrased it, it's really easy, no matter where you have the gain knob set, to go from a roaring growl to slightly biting simply by reducing your attack in your playing. It cleans up like an amp and then some (for obvious reasons). It's crazy dynamic and has such wonderful tone. I haven't been able to not use mine.

I personally really like my Homebrew Electronics Hematoma Bass overdrive for my od tones..

I paid $175 new for mine. What they did was take the preamp from the Traynor TS-50B and put it in a pedal. It's the bass tone from any Shellac recording, for a frame of reference. I could show you stuff I've used it on, but that's gay. I use it into my Crown and/or the effects loop of my Sunn bypassing the pre like Eric! mentioned for lots of success. It has an intense, aggressive, in your fucking face hard tone that I absolutely adore. Use it with 4 15"s and 8 10"s, and you've got something special.
