I mean, Logan 5s are really simple and cheap, and it's a good primer on ring moddery. I see it as a good first toe in the pool of ring mod. Or, you could just jump in and get a RR or a Moog.

Steven Wright plays a Rind Mod?! :wha?:

Scott Monk/Montreal Assembly has a bunch of Craig Anderton Ring Mod PCBs that he's trying to get rid of for PCB trades or for cheap. I made one and it pretty much sounds exactly the same as the one in the video posting except the clean signal is not blended in. I like that. The ones Scott has are really great because they have an effects loop. I have been blending in weird delays and fuzz and have been coming up with some really sick sounds. The Logan 5 looks really good, as well. Nice cheap little kit. I just got an order from caps n such/culturejam. It came really quick and the prices were great. I shoulda ordered a Logan 5 board, as well.

Not sure what kind he uses but he's definitely flipping a ring mod on and off for the solo in I'm Mad by The Dead Weather.

Sounds fucking sick.

Teej212 wrote:are there any you can recommend for someone whos not sure that they want one? i never really thought they were for me, but i kinda want to give a very simple one a shot.

RING STINGERRRRRR!!!!!!! :p

Teej212 wrote:so you know the sound that you get when you push an analog delay past its longest time setting, those really really lofi repeats? if i understand correctly, ring mods kinda sound like that when they are on very subtle settings.

That's exactly how I have my Moog set! I'm not much of a ring mod kind of guy, but I did get a little giddy when I dialed in the setting. I have the mix down, and the frequency set low. Makes my toanz a bit more growly, especially running it into an od. Come to think of it, it sounds just like a Dumble!

For someone who doesn't like ring mod, I sure do want a bunch of 'em.... R'sRevenge, Ringthang, RingStinger, Heliotrope (close enough), Ringworm, etc.

Congrats! I still want a Moog...
Try a bit: Front and After fuzz is cool for me. Before reverb and Delay is a must.

I have mine 3rd in chain... Tuner (which doesn't count) -> Whetstone -> Moog Ring Mod. Then I have all my dirt. I find that if I want an effect to be subtle I usually run it pre fuzz/od.

Also, chorus interacts with ring mod in a real cool way. I'm using a 2 knob EHX Small Clone clone, and it loves playing with the Moog.

still haven't spent any birthday cash, and you guys are really tempting me with this whole moog ring thing... I was thinking about either buying a new amp, only a ring stinger, or about 3 or 4 less expensive pedals. now i think i'm gonna hit the latter of my 3 options

yeah the videos of the moog really sold me, it looks crazy versatile. also with all the expression inputs and the like it looks like i can get into some silly situations with it
