Mammoth Customer Service - May 2011

Yeah, this is the first time in six or so orders that they messed up. It's bound to happen!
It just seems weird that I'm not getting responses. Totally odd!

They missed a couple components in my last order. I emailed them, and Blake emailed me the same day apologizing for the mixup, and told me that the parts were going to be in the mail next day. They were.

I've dealt with most of the major parts sellers online, and Mammoth ships the fastest and has the best prices this side of Taiwan. Also their website is super clean, and easy to navigate which is important to me. They quickly moved to the top of my favorite places to buy my goodies.

I actually got my order from Mouser a day or two before I got my order from Mammoth, both placed on the same day.

I do agree that the Mammoth Site is a lot less less clunky and that goes a long way.

Shipping:

Mouser,...on two breadboards and two terminal strips shipping was <$5
Mammoth on an enclosure and various other passive and active components and two bundles of wire shipping >$10

Both orders came in similarly sized boxes,...both were shipped priority but the Mammoth order was in a small flat rate box which should have only cost $5.20 to ship.

I guess the convenience of the site makes the $5 difference a little more worth it and I'm hoping that bundling larger orders together won't see such a significant increase in shipping costs. But if you get a great price on an enclosure it's still not cost effective if they ding you on shipping.

EDIT: I will say that if other vendors are offering the same enclosures that you get with GGG kits (the 125Bs not the Hammonds) and you put a value on your time,...the 4Site enclosures from Mammoth can make up for the extra cost in shipping. You definitely don't need to put as much time and effort into cleaning up the 4Site enclosures as you do the more crude ones from other vendors.

Yeah, they must have a high minimum shipping price. My last order came to a total of $180, and the shipping was only an additional $12. That's with 7 enclosures too. Probably not the best deal if you just have to pick up a couple component values though. But then again I usually hold off on ordering until I know I can make at least a $40-50 order. It's hard having at least a half dozen mostly populated boards lying around at any given time though.

So I'm finding that Mammoth isn't a one stop shop tough. Unless there are suitable replacements; I'm not finding a particular tranny I need for a build. I wanna pull my hair out trying to find it on Mouser (just to figure out they don't have it).

It's not on Smallbear either,....I've yet to check out Digikey,...or any other vendor.

Okay,...so I placed an order for an enclosure (for a rehouse) and some individual resistors, caps and trannies and two pots and the shipping order was a little over $5.

Their 3mm LEDs all have legs the same length. !??!

I had to reply to the order confirmation with Mammoth since I accidentally orderd .022u and .033u caps when I actually needed .0022u and .0033u (2n2,3n3). Hopefully they can swap the values out without me having to reorder and pay for shipping. If not I'll just bundle them in my next order. I don't expect a reply today since it's Memorial Day,...but will keep posted when I get a response.

I also found that if you set your multimeter to continuity you can check the polarity. Touch the Common and Positive leads to the legs of the LED,...if it lights up you got the polarity right.

Feel free to hit me up if you want help finding a part on Mouser. They're way better for transistors and such. DIY places charge a lot more for them. Same with diodes and usually caps.

Typically, I just type in the number (like BS170, 2N5088, MPSA18, etc), click the up arrow to sort by price cheapest first, and find one in the right package (TO-92, generally), and "bulk" packaging (not on tape).

You can get the exact part numbers from the datasheets too.

Just got my latest shipment of parts in from Mammoth. Got everything fine. In fact they gave me an extra bag of screws too. Shipped pretty quick. Took half a week from the day I ordered.

I've ordered from Mammoth a few times. I really like the way the site is layed out. Really easy to shop fast. I had a 40 dollar order going but the estimated shipping was around 30 bucks so I just placed an order with PPP and Small Bear. I think that I got a ridiculous shipping quote from Mammoth before and it ended up being way cheaper than the estimated price but it's still annoying. I guess the company is still young and I'm sure I'll shop there again but I love the customer service with PPP and they ship insanely fast. And Small Bear is just great for the extensive collection. I also cracked one of my Mammoth enclosures which was annoying, going stick with the quality hammond boxes from now on....

Right here. Great product at a fair price, and free shipping on many orders.

They have FR4 in red, blue, black, and whatever their standard color is (yellowish? greenish?). They also have some really nice cream / white CEM board, too.

Here's a board I made with the CEM, and one with the blue FR4.

+1 the only exception being resistors and caps on tayda are $0.01 each. on mouser they are like $0.08 each. but tayda has a painfully limited selection of caps and metal film resistors. carbon comp is a full house though and they are %5 too.
