I have a buddy with one and I really like it... it totally dominates my Blues Jr. and I paid more than $350 for the Jr. It's a really solid amp and that's a killer price, congrats if you go for it!

Yup, good amps those. I had one that was used for touring and it held together really well for years, good tone and plenty of volume. Still have the earlier version blues deluxe which I wouldn't part with.

Hmmmm... yeah. I have the American made Blues Deluxe tweed stylez. Sounds excellent. The overdrive channel is really good... whereas the Hot Rod OD and distortion channels are quite muddy. Not sure why/how that happened. I'd like to play one of the MIM reissues of the Blues Deluxe and compare the two. Other than some of the toggle switches and lights being moved around on the control panel, I'm sure there isn't too much difference. But gaaaaaallll... the OD channel is REAL nice. Sounds like Sloan.

Hey,
I have been a long time reader here, but first time posting.
I have an older American Hot Rod Deluxe (with the chrome control panel), totally stock. I love it! It is my main amp, for practicing, jamming, and gigging. My only complaint it that it is a little too loud. 40 watts (tube) is overkill for most situations. I have never been in a situation where I was underpowered with the HRDLX!
But it is relatively small and light (for a tube combo), which I love. Just throw it in the trunk, and you are ready to rock! I am too old to be carrying around big stacks, or twin combos! I love Vox AC30's, but there is no way in hell I am carting an 80 pound amp around!
A lot of people complain about the drive channel, but I think it is awesome. I use the amp a little differently... I run it on the drive channel all the time, with the Master Volume knob cranked. And I use the "Gain" knob as the volume knob. This drives the amp a little harder and makes it break up nicely. It makes it a little easier to find the amps sweet spot, where it hovers between clean and Overdriven. Scoop the mid's a bit too, makes it cut through the mix nicely.
If you really want to make this thing sing, run it through the matching 112 closed back cabinet. It really brings out the bottom end and makes this thing come alive!

Awesome one side. Forget about the drive channel. Turn up the clean or throw a dirt pedal in front of it. Have someone switch the tapers around the volume controls to make them usable, as opposed to ridiculous.
Perfect amp, and a steal at $300.
