I've always wanted a re-201. if it was me I wouldn't mod it cause there are a limited number of these units in existence. like a classic car. but if you figure you'll get more work done and your a working musician then I totally understand why everything needs to be setup to make music. you should make some roots reggae dub style one afternoon.
it wasnt oscillating at all hence me moving the bias pot i could have just adjusted it but its a maze to get to do it
its actually a 150 but its a 201 chasis on the inside im not worried about modding this unit in some cases it would increase its value making it a giant dub noise machine now
there not too extinct yet there still freely available at a somewhat decent price
dragging this back up so i finally got around to drilling and replacing it BUT its not doing well anything? space echo works fine as always
so i either havnt replaced the right one but there isnt well any other pots left besides the tape rec pot and some other random one on another board but im not sure or maybe my connections shot but im pretty darn sure there good to roll
so ive been playing with it again trying to figure out whats going and what i think ive done is possibly im not sure but ive replaced the wrong trimmer LOL
looking at the schems i think what ive replaced is the bias level adjustment trimmer insted of the bias because whats happening is that hard left on the control the trail of the delays seem WAY dirtier and muffled but hard right and there super clean and crisp its hard to hear but theres a def difference
am i possibly doing damage to the heads over a long time ? the only thing i know is that the tape rec head level bias is what effects the heads and theres a bias pot for that which is fine how it is
theres only like one other trimmer and its on powerboard but why would a bias point be there for the intensity ?
sounds like your saturating your tape and thats why its getting dirty. its like diode clipping, its not gonna get any louder. you have to increase the volume on the playback head somehow. oscillation is affected by each gain stage. its a feedback loop really. if there is a volume drop from the playback head then its never gonna oscillate. maybe you need to clean the heads.

im pretty much done all the setup for it like new tape, alignments, cleaning and so forth and no lurve
