Well, you mentioned the Jaguar PJ, which has a J-style neck

I wonder how the pickups are on those. I like hot P pickups...
Ps to me feel like digging in as hard as possible, strings rattling against the frets like the shitty fan against its cover in my last car, dancing like a retard while playing and the feeling of a weapon in your hands.
Js are like "okay guys, I'll play for real this time. NO, I'M SERIOUS, FOR REAL!"

You have to decide what neck you want, & what pickup you want. P basses are available with Jazz necks, and vice-versa, or you can simply buy them separately & piece them together. You may suffer some neck pocket gaps or differences where you'll have to adjust either the pocket or the heel of the neck.
The issues for me are nut width (J=1.5", P=1.65"<), neck shape/thickness, and the pickups mentioned, albeit there are cases of interchanged pickups, and having a single master-vol knob. A lot of people go for the p/j pickup thing but I prefer one single coil, in the P position.
Lastly, the highest fret on the 1st string is slightly more accessible on the Jazz than the Precision. That doesn't matter to most people.

I prefer the j bass neck personally. I also like the p/j pickup combo. I like the growl from the p and the clarity I can dial up from the j. Makes the bass a bit more versatile too.

Yeah I love Jazz necks. Duff McKagan had that p/j thing going.
GnR tickets starting at only $1300 (pit g/a). What a bargain!

I've had Matt Freeman model Squier since yesterday.
The pickup sounds damn good. Says custom pickup who knows what it is. Sounds like Seymour qp but not as hot.
I like the tone knob. Don't know what pot it is I'm-a guess 250k.
Needs nothing else except maybe sand down the neck.
