What speakers are those? Any way I could try this cab with my amp? :)

They're just the Weber speakers Emperor is using stock now days, a hand-made clone of the Celestion G1265H, or 1265H, whatever it is. They're 65 watts/per speaker and improve upon everything that the V30s lack. Basically gives you a tighter, more controlled bass response that doesn't get flubby and smoother, more useable highs, they sound great.

I don't care if you check it out sometime, mine is wired to 8ohms if that will work out with your amp?

This. Those Weber speakers that Emperor has are killer and if you get them in an Emperor cab, they're a real deal! :thumb:

As in specifics? I get the impression a 212 Emperor cab is $1k or so, and that's about 5 times what I'd like to spend on a cab.

This is what I was quoted on an Emperor 2x12, prices subject to change, of course:
w/ eminence legends (150 watt cab ) - $495
w/ weber 65’s (130 watt cab) - $525 * this is the recommended speaker for our cabs, but since it is completely hand made in the US it may take a little longer for your cab.
w/ most other eminence red coats and patriots - $525 (manowar and wizard included)
w/ celestion g12, v30 or greenbacks - $675
empty w/ wiring harness - $425

Oh shit.
That's not bad.
I kinda wish I didn't know they were that cheap.
Now I want one more.
12x12 here I come.

Yea, it's a total misconception that Emperor is pricey, really one of the better deals on a cab. Mine was $525 shipped, actually sold my Orange 2x12, bought the Emperor, and came out $75 ahead with a way better sounding cab. Could've been I just hated the V30s in the Orange, who knows, never really experimented with speaker changes.

Mannn.
How much was shipping?
I'm in Canada, so it might be pricier for me.

Shipping was only $30 for me, but I'm in St. Louis, not too far off.

Price is highly competitive given the construction and handmade quality. Pretty sure these cabs blow Avatars out of the water, too. :thumb:

Hot Rod puts out 4 OHMS, which should still be ok, right?

An amp should handle a 2:! impedance mismatch, but only when the Ohms are lower in the speaker cab than the amp. So I don't know for sure; but it probably isn't good idea (I've heard of people killing the entire power section, or frying the limit resistor, blowing up the transformer, etc.)

The higher resistance (Ohms is a unit of resistance) gets multiplied as the load in the transformer, and 8 ohms turns out to be a lot harder on the amp & its transformer than 4 ohms.

Again, I know nothing. I was almost certain 4 ohm amp to 8 ohm cab was ok, but that 8 ohm amp to 4 cabinet was not.

this. amp lower (or same) Ohm, box higher (or same) Ohm is always safe. mismatching with a lower Ohm cab has the effect, that the amp has not enough load. that stresses the tranny. with a decent amp even this is not critical - but i would never advise to do it...

I've heard it argued back and forth about ohm mismatches.

My Understanding:
Running a 4ohm amp to 8ohm cab could (theoretically) result in the OT seeing "flashback" voltages, as the resistance at the cab is too high, rejecting some of the current. The opposite (8ohm amp > 4ohm cab) could put some undue stress on both OT and tubes, as load is too low and amp is working overtime to supply voltage/current.

As stated, a 2:1 mismatch either way is generally safe with a quality amp, however, not recommended. I've yet to see anyone destroy their amp by mismatching, I'm sure it's happened though. Also, mismatches tend to produce shittier tone, don't really reflect how a matched amp and cab would/should sound.
