that's very, very cool and a lot closer to what I wanted to achieve. Thanks for sharing!
I have ordered some decent copper foil (0,5m) and a few chemicals and hopefully I'll be able to reproduce the green copper look as well as making it look more 'heavy' (hammered copper foil should yield a nice 3D-ish surface.

i should see if my girlfriend can chime in here - she works at a bronze foundry and is well experienced with patina.

How do are you sealing the foil to the aluminum enclosure? I got some good plating through my process but didn't have the clearcoat I use now. If I did it again, I think it would be great to do an epoxy resin coating like cloudscapes boxes. When I wetsanded the box I posted the copper got all nice and shiny and when I cleared it, the shiny got knocked down a bit. With further experimentation, it would be great to figure out a good step by step procedure to get some good copper plated enclosures. Just a nice alternative.

I wasn't using foil of the same thickness as you, I suspect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_leaf

I just got a nice piece of copper with 0,5mm thickness, which is almost too much to work with properly.

on the stompbox, I 'overdosed' with the hepar sulfuris, it turned the copper completely black and ate quite a bit of it
I guess one more coat of copper is in order.

Ammonia and salt give a nice blue. I tried this with Sophisticated Finishes Copper Metallic Surfacer - made the paint bubble up and chip, but it did get blue.

another thing i just thought off for copper coating..
i used to work at an aluminium diecasting factory and one of our products had to get chrome plated, before they done the chromeing they would be coated in copper for the chrome to stick. AFAIK the copper coating was a similar process to chrome plating (electroplating)
just chucking that idea out there
