I'm still not convinced, somebody could make something that doesn't suck with this pedal.

Now, find me an example of someone using a talk-box and not sounding like a douche and I'll be impressed.

I like the Talk Box in "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" by Pink Floyd. I think there's some cool Talk Box in there but there's definately some kinda douchey stuff too.

sonidero wrote:Both effects are time based... Chorus is like a "choir" which is an attempt to thicken up your sound by adding a couple delayed tracks to the original... A flangers sound comes from the days of recording on tape... If you are playing back two decks into a third and you place your finger on the tape flange, which is the edge on the tape reel, it will slow down a little and lag slightly behind creating a "flanging " effect... They can be used in a million different ways but subtly is key as in anything... Saying they're just old sounds is doing a little bit of a disservice to them, kinda like saying Fuzz sucks cause it's the most basic torn speaker sound from the 60's...
Wow, thanks for the info. I feel a little more schooled about effects. I guess I didn't mean to dismiss them simply because they sound old, but just to describe them as a timbre that hasn't seemed to age well to me. I'll definitely try more subtle versions of these effects though.

All good... I prefer Phasers over Flangers for the whishy washy liquidy sound... I have a Dave Smith Evolver that has three delays and some LFO's and the manual shows how to make Chorus, Phase, and Flanging sounds just by changing values... They're all related and I'm sure you can find a use for some of them...

Wah on high distortion solos, ala Kirk Hammett.

Compressors are the key to huge rockin FUZZ madness... I use two and I sound massive on two 60's 10" tube amps... I plug straight into a Black Finger then into a 2ube before I even hit a pedal... Tubes offer natural compression and I think that with the heavy tonez you're after you would need a compressor...
